Looking for Golf and Coastline for long weekend in Maine

I'm trying to plan a long weekend to Maine from NY and I'm overwhelmed by figuring out where in Maine we should go. Maine has been high on my list for a while so I'm worried I will pick the wrong area and it won't be what I expected.

What we would like is somewhere with the unique coastline I've come to associate with Maine. We also would like to be able to golf and finally, we need to be able to get there from NYC easily enough that it's worth it for a long weekend, and we're fine with flying there. Is anything like this possible?

Thanks for your help!

Thanks for the suggestion milemarker! But how do we get there? I couldn't find directions on their website...

Yes, the Directions ARE a little hidden....click on Contact Us and there are directions and Driving Times from various places....if you do fly, I'd suggest into Portland, ME and take the US1 Coastal Route....should take about 90 minutes.

The Black Point Inn in Scarborough might fit the bill. It's a cool old inn if you're into that kind of thing. The beach is great as are the views. There is a golf course there but I don't play so can't comment on it. You could fly into Portland and be at the Inn in less than 30 minutes.
