Looking for FUN! Your most fun family vacation?

What's the most "fun!!" vacation your family has ever taken?

My kids vote for Universal Studios, Florida. Stayed at the Hard Rock Hotel, had front-of-the-line access.

What would your family vote for?

Clark Apr 6th, 2002 07:10 AM

My family would vote for the time we drove the family truckster all the way from Chicago to Wally World.
We roughed up the dog a little on the way, and grandma got pretty wet in a rainstorm, but I'm pretty sure she didn't mind.
Had a little trouble with the park rides once we got there, but with a little Griswald perseverence we ended having a great time.
Marty Moose is still our favorite moose in the world.

Hey Clark,
Watch much T.V.???
Maybe you should travel more.

Our family's favorite:
Long week-end in New York City --2 years ago.
We all had a great time.
My kids would vote for Puerto Vallarta. We stayed at an all inclusive. They swam in the pool and ocean. We enjoyed various parties (family orientated) at the hotel at night and toured the area a little. Nice relaxing vacation and the kids were never bored.
I have young children, 5 and 3. We haven't gone on too many trips together yet - although we are looking forward to it. Thus far, our best vacation was to Smugglers Notch in Vermont. We were there last year for the 4th of July. Both boys loved the camp and the pools which have waterslides and other fun things for kids. My husband and I had a great time hiking and kayaking. We are going back again this year.

I agree FUN. We go on a lot of family vacations, and it's a tie. While these aren't vacations my husband and I would go on alone, our family (kids especially), loved our recent trip to WDW and Universal, and my husband and I loved the Hard Rock and the FOTL. Nothing like NOT waiting in line at a Theme Park. The other trip my kids loved which was a lot of fun was a cruise. They loved the Disney cruise and a Royal Caribbean equally because of the great kids programs.

My son's (age 10) choice would be Italy. I think primarily because of the food (pasta, pizza & gelato). My daughter (13), would prbably say, this year's spring break trip, Arizona (Grand Canyon, Sedona, Tucson & Pheonix).

My son's are all grown up now, but my oldest took his girlfriend to Yosemite to propose and then took his new bride on a vacation to Zion, Bryce, Capitol Reef, Arches, Canyonlands, Monument Valley and Carlsbad Caverns.

These are places we have taken our son when he was young. I guess that speaks for itself:)

Utahtea
My kids still talk about the year we stayed at the Hyatt Lake Tahoe for almost a week then we drove to Mammoth for 4 days and stayed in a condo. From there we went through Yosemite and stayed at the Tanaya Lodge and hiked all through the giant sequoias and then went to Monterey where we cut our stay short because the hotel was too yukky. The kids asked if we could leave the aquarium and we went to the beach which they enjoyed much more.

Since we live in northern CA it wasn't necessary for us to stay in teh park at Yosemite as we have seen the valley many times. Eastern Yosemite and southern Yosemite are not the direct shot so it was great to see more of both on this trip.

Amom, what month were you in Arizona? How was the weather? I'm considering it for next years Spring Break, my kids will be 10 and 13 then. Did you stay anywhere that you would recommend? Thanks!

Nina:
We went to Tucson and southern Arizona last April. For a few days, it was cold and actually snowed. Went to Bisbee, Benson (at Skywatcher's Inn), and then to Sheraton El Conquistador, Tucson. We had a great time (kids were 11 and 9).

My kids voted hands down on cruising. It was easy for everyone- we all had time to do whatever we wanted and they were safe going around the ship pretty much by themselves.

Oahu and Kauai largely for the hiking, swimming and snorkeling. Consider this a triumph as 3 kids had to endure a 12 hour plane ride.

Our kids are largely interested in outdoors, never a peep about going to disney world and the like. Went when they were smaller they don't express interest now. We do get requests for Europe and Canada though. Makes me feel like they have some of my travel blood. These kids are 13 and under.

We took the kids to a guest ranch up past Lake Tahoe. The entire family had a blast - daily horseback rides, hayrides, bonfires, cook outs, hikes, fishing. There were also crafts classes, late night outdoor movies and dancing for all ages. The kids enjoyed it so much that they requested it again for this year's summer vacation.

Notrusty May 1st, 2002 10:49 AM

only if you are five Rusty.

Rusty May 1st, 2002 10:55 AM

Get a sense of humor people.

Mary May 1st, 2002 10:59 AM

Why don't you graduate first and then we can discuss what a sense of humor is and where it is appropriate.

Rusty May 1st, 2002 11:29 AM

Gee Clark, let's go back over to the Caribbean/Cruise/Canada sites...they are a lot more easy-going than this bunch of uptight, boring, drab group.

John May 1st, 2002 12:12 PM

We loved our trip out to the Grand Canyon, hopping to do a ranch week in Montana this year
