Looking for Fall Colors...

We recently moved to Dallas, TX and are missing the fall colors we used to see in the midwest.
Does anyone have any suggestions of places we could drive to within 5 hours of Dallas, TX to see some fall scenery?
Right up the highway to Hot Springs, Arkansas, the national forests nearby, the Ozarks, all very nice this time of year.

Go south to a place called "Lost Maples State Park, in the Hill Country.

Or. wait a while. The leaves in Dallas should turn in a few weeks, although I will admit they are not as spectacular as the Smokies mountains in Tennessee, they still look good.

Queen Wilhemena State Park on the Ark/Okla border has beautiful mountainous scenery and fall colors. A nice lodge atop the Mt. operated by Ark State Parks. Go to Ark. SP home page for a look. Nice place but is very popular especially in the fall. We were there for my birthday in early November a few years ago. It was very lovely.

Cooper Lake State Park, about 80 miles NE of Dallas has pretty impressive colors if you catch it just right.

Take I-30 east to Greenville, get off at exit 101 towards Commerce/Paris-Hwy 24 and it is about 30 miles up the road. There are two seperate entrances, each pretty well marked on the highway about 20 miles apart from each other.

I have family in the area, it is not a bad drive something you could get up in the morning, drive to and be back before dark.
