Looking for Condo Areas other than Waikiki

Fourth trip to Hawaii, first with two teens. Looking for condo area suggestions for five nights. I never personally liked to stay right in Waikiki, opting for Ala Moana and area around the yacht harbor. Close, but not TOO close. Now looking for condo convenient to Honolulu, but far enough away to get away from the crowds. Areas, and specific suggestions appreciated.

You can try these sites:

www.expedia.com

www.bookit.com

www.hawaii-hotels.com scroll to the bottom & where it says VISIT, click on Oahu condos.

Expedia & bookit do not separate the condos form the hotels. So you have to read the info on each property to find out what it is.

So I suggest www.hawaii-hotels.com first. Make a list of condos you are interested in, then go to the other sites for better prices.

Ala Moana Hotel is the only place I know of on the town side of the bridge to Waikiki. To me this is no quieter than the Waikiki hotels & condos.

Resortquest Waikiki Sunset & Resortquest Waikiki Banyon are two decent condos on the Diamond Head end of Waikiki. Outrigger Luana (Waikiki Terrace on the map) is a refurbished condo.

This is a map of Waikiki hotels & condos:

You can also try www.vrbo.com

I live in the Ala Moana area and I like its convenience to everything, but it's just outside of Waikiki. If you are with two teens, this may be a better solution for you than staying farther out (like Manoa).

Dusty
I saw a post from you during an earlier search. The link www.hawaii-hotels.com appears to be dead. It goes to a site called carsafe.com. Any thoughts?

I just had a great experience renting condos on Kauai and Hawaii (not Oahu) by going through Vacation Rental By Owner (www.vbro.com). Be sure to ask lots of questions - how current are the pictures? how close is it to the places you want to visit? Can they provide references? etc.

You're right. I just tried hawaii-hotels.com and it isn't good any more.
