Looking for Christmas holiday destination
I need some assistance in chosing the ultimate Christmas holiday destination....one with the lights, cold weather, tastes and yummy smells of Christmas.
Thanks for your suggestions. jlhaskell |
For a different, but magical holiday - Santa Fe is amazing at Christmas time.
There are strolls along Canyon Road, activities in the Plaza, and of course, farolitos. Spided Mexican Hot Chocolate, the scent of pinon wood burning, tamales to eat, snow often, and on and on. Also, a ride down to Albuquerque to see the River of Lights is a must. http://travel.usnews.com/Santa_Fe_NM...Santa_Fe_2381/ http://traveltips.usatoday.com/xmas-...ico-42596.html Lots more, this is just to whet your appetite. |
New York.
Everything - and more of it. Just bring lots of credit cards. |
I second NYC but you can have a great time skiing in Colorado during Christmas and there will be plenty of snow.

Santa Fe is great, also enjoyed Christmas at Sedona, AZ. Although it didn't snow there, we could drive Oak Creek Canyon to Flagstaff for all we wanted. It felt Somewhat similar to Santa Fe without the history.
Of course there are the winter wonderland hotspots such as Whitefish, MT, Breckenridge, CO, Park City, UT, etc. As Californians DW and I like the northern coast, Mendocino in particular, seems to have everything but the snow, cold (usually wet) weather, lights, quaint village to explore, good food, stunning views. Have fun making the decision. |
I'd love to be at Longfellow's Wayside Inn in Sudbury, MA. It's a peaceful place: no TV, no radios, and the dining room produces good old-fashioned American food. Breakfasts are especially good, featuring corn muffins made with cornmeal from the nearby mill.
The schoolhouse in Mary Had a Little Lamb is nearby, and it's a beautiful area in winter overall. |
No place compares to New York at Xmas. There's no second place in this contest. Many places are nice, have nice events, are snowy, have sleighs. No other place is NYC.
