Looking for B & Bs in Pasadena and Los Angeles

Would like to find a B & B (or small hotel) for two nights in Pasadena and 2 nights in LA in December. Need two bedrooms, hoping to spend under $200 a night (per person). We're going for the art, so would like to be reasonably close to the Norton Simon and Huntington Gardens in Pasadena and to the LA County museum in Los Angeles. Thanks for any recommendations.

Are you going to have a car? If so I wouldn't change hotels after two nights as Pasadena and Lacma are not very far from each other. Even without a car...you could stay for instance in downtown Los Angeles and reach both places in about 20 minutes, one via Gold Line Metro and the other by express bus.

I will have a car but hate driving those LA freeways. I thought staying in the two different places would cut down the driving. Maybe I should rethink it though.

Two B&Bs in South Pasadena:

The Bissell House is about 2 miles from the Norton Simon and about 4 miles from the Huntington Library and Gardens. And it's probably 1/2 mile (easy walk) to one of my favorite restaurants in the area, The Raymond.

The Arroyo Vista Inn is about 1 mile farther from both the NS and the HLG.

You can drive from either property to LACMA without getting on a freeway. It's actually a very easy route on a couple of long streets. Just search the route on maps.google.com and choose 'avoid highways' on the 'options' menu. I'd rather stay in South Pas than downtown L.A. or near LACMA.

Don't miss the Gamble House in Pasadena.

I second Jean's recommendations, esp about Bissell House. We stayed there a few years ago and loved it. Lots of great walks around the beautiful neighborhood. We also walked to Norton Simon. Gamble House was great. The Huntington can't be beat. We also went to the Getty Museums (both of them). Great area. My mom's family is from South Pasadena, so we had gone there often. Have fun.
