looking for b&b between Old Saybrook and Newport
We're looking for a nice b&b for the end of February -- between Old Saybrook, Connecticut and Newport, RI, right on the water, in relatively close proximity to good restaurants. Any thoughts?
|
The Shelter Harbor INN in Charlestown comes to mind but it's not quite on the water
|
How about the Inn at Stonington http://www.innatstonington.com/
It's about an hour to Newport, perhaps a few minutes less, and maybe half an hour from Old Saybrook. Stonington Borough is a beautiful town in its own right, and has a few well regarded restaurants, Noah's for example. |
yes, we stayed there last year and loved it, would absolutely go back. Our tradition is that we go every year on that weekend; this will be Year 3. I don't tell my wife where we're staying in advance, and we're trying a different place each year. Year 1 was Castle Hill in Newport, which is probably out of our price reach now. So, I'm looking for a new one!
thanks! |

The Wydham Bay voyage on Jamestown might be right up your alley |
good suggestion, thanks! But we need ocean! Looking for that perfect B/B on the water...does it exist?
thanks |
The Bay Voyage overlooks Narragansett Bay.
Your problem is that you started with the best!! I can't believe that Castle Hill is asking in the 300's for a room in January.....yipes! |
|
If it is open yet, the Ocean House in Watch Hill, RI might fit the bill
|
Unfortunately Ocean House is not scheduled to open until June 2010. Probably a great choice for next year, though!
|
Slightly further than you were asking, but Chatham Bars Inn out on the Cape....they were running specials last year at that time along with the Wayside Inn. Keep an eye on Travelzoo.
|
thanks! Ocean House does look like it's going to be nice. Milemarker, the Cape is just too far -- we'll be going there from my inlaws in western Mass and returning to NYC.
Does anyone know either the Niantic Inn or the Inn at Harbor Hill Marina in Niantic? |
The Inn at Mystic is not a B&B per se but it is wonderful place and it's right on the water. Their restaurant, Flood Tide, has excellent food. Full breakfast is included.
We stayed in the Gate House, it is the room where Bogie and Bacall honeymooned. The rooms in the Mansion are really nice too! http://www.innatmystic.com/gatehouse.shtml http://www.buckeyepower.com/cl/upload/pg_666.pdf Deb |
