Looking for an excellent Hotel in Sacramento
 

Hi, looking for a four to five star hotel. Will be attending a Sunday brunch on the Delta King Hotel/Riverboat, so need something that's close by or convenient. Preferably near things to see/do and good restaurant. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Embassy Suites has a lovely hotel right by Old Sacramento - walking distance. Stay above the second floor for a little more quiet.

Second the Embassy Suites if proximity to Old Sacramento is your main requirement. (You do know I assume that the Delta King is also a hotel - small rooms because they are steamboat cabins. Many people LOVE the DK because it is right on the water)

The only other upscale-ish full service hotels in the downtown area are the Sheraton Grand and Hyatt Regency - both about 11 blocks from the Delta King. The Holiday Inn is much closer - about 2.5 blocks -- but it is a Holiday Inn. Rooms aren't bad, tho'.

They Hyatt Regency is the best in town: www.sacramento.hyatt.com. Ask for a corner unit facing the state capitol.

If you stay at the Hyatt, make sure to specify a room in a quiet part of the hotel. We stayed in this hotel last year and didn't get much sleep.

We had very noisy neighbors one night and had to call the front desk several times before things quieted down.

Another night teenaged kids were running the halls until all hours. Again, I had to call the front desk several times before the problem was taken care of.

It's a nice hotel, but like I said, we didn't get much sleep. Hopefully this is not par for the course.

asking for a "quiet" area of the hotel I don't think would make much difference given the circumstances that you describe...I don't think the hotel chooses an area to place all the people who they think may be noisy. That's a total coincidence.

In my experience, upper floors tend to be quieter than lower floors and rooms closer to the end of hallways tend to be quieter than rooms near the elevators. Also, in this case, there was obviously some type of event going on which resulted in bunches of kids being in the hotel. I doubt these kids' rooms were evenly distributed throughout the hotel.

This is an old Sacramento Mansion that has been turned into a deluxe B&B with available spa packages. It looks really beautiful -- and definitely better than Sheraton (ugh). You can stay at the Delta King, but the rooms are very small. Hyatt is probably your best bet for a basic hotel. The Sterling Hotel is also very nice -- more of a boutique hotel with fireplaces, etc.
