looking for a small lakes or ponds in the adirondacks

Hello!

We are a family of 4 looking for a small lake side or pond side cabin or camp. We are looking to be in the southern or central Adirondacks. I know the ADKS are full of ponds and lakes - I have spent lots of time looking at maps and know that not every single small pond or lake is always listed. I imagine that there are many I've never even heard of. I am wondering if anyone knows of a small body of water where we might visit and begin looking for our little dream lake or pond house.

We are not opposed to a non motorized lake - we love to kayak and love the peace and solitude. Lake George or Luzerne are WAY too busy. We love the feel of the Goodnow Flow or Oxbow Lake. Any others you would recommend would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you!!!!

There are a lot of small NYS campgrounds. http://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/7825.html can give you a list.

I frequent Lake Moreau. It's not quite in the ADKsIt's between Saratoga and Lake George so close enough to civiilization and the kid friendly fun of LG, but quiet and isolated enough for a peaceful camping experience. There is one small cabin on the west side, and about 50 campgrounds.

I should add that I frequent Moreau for day use - have never camped there. There are some good hiking trails, a beach with lifeguards, kayak and other boat rentals.

Thank you so much for your response!

I guess I didn't explain myself quite good enough -
We are looking for a cabin or camp to purchase on a small lake or pond.

Why wouldn't yo contact a realtor in the area? Knowing a lake is there won't do any good if there isn't a house for sale.

How about Mohegan Lake? I hear there's a nice little property there for sale

I've rented private houses, one on a small lake, and one on a small pond.

Both should meet your interests:

Thurman Pond (not far from Schroon Lake)

Lake Balfour (Minerva; Rte 28)
