I realize this post is ancient... But in case anyone else is wondering the same...

There is a great new restaurant in Kennebunkport (Cape Porpoise) that has excellent prices on fresh lobster and lobster rolls: Luke's on Nine. They also have very reasonably priced cocktails, fyi. Family atmosphere, friendly service, great fried food, too.

Maine is the place. the last trip, I only ate it the 3 nights we were in Bar Harbor. The previous trip, I ate it the 6 nights we were along the coast. I always got the 2 lobster meal (was $10 on my first trip in 86 and about $16 in 2004)

In Kittery, Chauncey Creek lobster pound. You can bring your own "whatever they don't serve" food. Nice spot on the river (creek). Open seasonally.

Combine lobster and breathtaking scenery and you get.....Cape Breton Nova Scotia. Scoot on over to the Canada forum and check it out.

One of my most memorable meals was in Cheticamp. I asked the waitress what the name of the town meant (created when they displaced the Acadiens to create the National Park). Her response was "Exactly what it sounds like!"

Funny story--A few months ago, I read where prisoners in a Maine jail went on sort of a strike, because they were tired of eating lobster every day!

Waldo, another funny story. Stonewall Jackson's men came across the big Union depot in northern Virginia before Second Manassas. They were absolutely puzzled over the tens of thousands of cans of lobster. Couldn't make heads or tails of them.

Well, though this was a post from last June it is evidentally to plan for next June. Yes, we happened upon a neat place in Maine...Ship Ahoy Motel near Boothbay Harbor (on Southport Island). This is a motel overlooking the bay with quite inexpensive rooms.
Just down the road is a well-known lobster boil place...Robinson's Wharf.
Excellent!

I know this is a really old thread but I'm going to be in New London next week. Can anyone advise if Abbott's is still open in Noank and if it is still high quality?

I think we may need a "fresh" Maine lobster thread!

Subway in Canada has justed launched a lobster sandwich. I dont think I'll try it.

Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia and New Brunswick all have lobsters cheap in season. Check on the Fisheries Canada website to see when the season is for a particular area and that is where you will get the best price. Nothing like going to the wharf and getting them right from the fisherman.

Greetings from New London!

As promised now that I've eaten at Abbott's, I'll post a report. As my grandaughter says, IT'S WONERFUL!!!!! (yep, the D is missing on purpose. She hasn't quite mastered that word yet).

I ate there Monday evening and was highly impressed. It's directly on the coast, on the banks at the mouth of a river and Long Island sound so the ambience is superb. I can't vouch for their entire menu but the clam chower (broth, not thick soup) is excellent and the lobster sweet and succulent. The lobster dinner is served with cole slaw and bagged potato chips, both of which I could have done without but both the food and the expereince were well worth the slight trouble I had locating it. In fact, I'm going back again tomorrow night for my last night before I head for Boston.

My husband really liked their lobster roll. It was pure lobster meat, served hot.
