looking for a great day spa near the Benson Hotel in downtown Portland

I'm so excited for our Portland trip the end of November--my husband and I have never been there but have heard much. DH will be in meetings part of the time so hmmmm, perhaps a little spa time is in order.

Any suggestions? I found Spa Sasse on the web but don't know anything about it.

I'm doing Fodors and web searches on Portland but any other suggestions (restaurants, etc.) would be most welcome. TIA :-)

Don;t know if the hotel is a required part of the business section of the trip. If not - I would suggest looking a tother options.

It is a very "men's club" type of hotel - and frankly I found it dreary and inconvenient. Everything in the entire room is in shades of brown/tan and the rooms are SMALL. They make no concessions to female travelers (make-up mirror etc), amenities are very limited - and the staff has an extremely unhelpful attitude.

At least they did to me - and I was one of the leaders of a large group - we had almost 50 rooms for several nights as well as meeting rooms and catering - and they wouldn;t even give me a few hours late departure for one (1) room for a few hours - since I was catching a plane back to NYC and it would have given me time to start on my report. (They seem to think they're running Buckingham Palace and you're one of the peasants at the gate.)

Sadly, this is our assigned hotel. Oh well...

I guess all of our helpful Portland Posters are "poisoned" already?

Ah Tess, when Scarlett sees this post she will help you I am sure.

You will love Portland!! It is a beautiful city with very lovely people.

While your husband is in meetings if you like gardens you can go to the beautiful Japanese Garden (I haven't been there yet), The Chinese Garden (such a beautiful and peaceful place), Powell's Books, the largest independant book store in the US I believe, shops galore. Sorry I don't have any information regarding spa's.

I am sure our resident Portland Fodorites will give you some good restaurant advice. You will eat well!
