Looking for a fun lake resort in Minnesota

I am looking for advise from anyone who has stayed at a lake resort in Minnesota which has a great social atmosphere for fun, partying, fishing, younger crowd, organizied activities, sports, games, lounge. I'm not looking for expensive amenities. It could be a cabin or a room in a resort building. Looking for lots of people to meet and lots to do.

I would prefer a wooded area on a lake in central or NE Minnesota.

thanks

Look at Grand View Lodge in Nisswa Minnesota. It's on Gull Lake and it has many activities. They also just recently opened a new spa!

Are you sure? I'm not a big fan of Central Minnesota...the weather is nice, but there always seems to be something biting you...mosquitos or black flies. Plus, the prices for restaurants and hotels are like you would find in a big city, yet the quality is very "small town."

missypie, I am back from my vacation now. You are sure right. I checked dozens of resorts and prices before making a choice. The prices are outrageous. $150 to $250 per night for a cabin???. We ended up staying in a no-tell motel near a lake, and that was also way over-priced. We're going to to Europe next summer and save some money!

We live in Minnesota and while the northern lakes are lovely, as you stated, everything is overpriced. We too have been taking our vacations in Europe because it can be cheaper than many of our home state resorts.

Wow, when did this happen. I used to take my kids up to the Lutsen area in the summer partly because it was reasonably priced. Granted that was 10-15 years ago but it's not THAT long ago.
How depressing, I still think of those times as wonderfully less complicated and that Lake Superior, she is so beautiful.

Jette, Years ago our parents took us on family vacations at fine resorts on both Gull Lake and Leach Lake, and my parents were not rich. I checked prices on both resorts this summer. The very cabin we stayed in at the resort on Walker Lake has gone up to around $300 per night depending on the date!!! Its the same cabin with probably a new paint job, updated carpet, and a new light bulb!

The thing about these run of the mill resorts in Minnesta is that they are as expensive as new luxury resorts in Vegas or on the east coast where the cost of living is much more expensive.
I guess it really is the appeal of the beautiful lakes and rural atmosphere here which attracts people. We are definately Europe bound next summer, or maybe elsewhere in the states.
