Looking for a foldout, pocket-sized Chicago subway map
My husband has a very old but useful laminated, pocket-sized NYC subway map and I need one for Chicago. I have done google searches but cannot find what I need.
Any ideas? |

print it out, laminate it and score it to fold. Have you contacted the CTA or any bookstores in Chicago? |

This foldout street map also includes a small subway map, and overlays the stops on the street map. I've seen them at Hammacher-Schlemmer stores, as well as bookstores, and even Walgreens in Chicago. |
No I haven't contacted CTA but that's an excellent idea. We just found out yesterday that my son was accepted into UIC (we live in Dallas) and so I was going to get one for him.

I have one of Downtown and that a UIC student would love that I bought at Barnes & Noble. It is heavy laminated plastic and fits inside a wallet.
I believe it came inside one of the Chicago city guides. But I use the print outs on Metra, Pace, CTA etc. all the time too. Online is so up to the minute now. |
You know I bet you could get the guide and laminate fold out at Barnes & Noble online.

have you seen the subway only maps I'm talking about though? I'll find my husband's NYC map and see who the maker is, maybe they make maps for other cities. I'll check out B&N online as well. Thanks.

There's not all that many subways or els in Chicago. A map showing the various colored el trains only? You could get that online as posted above.
I'm not sure that would be as helpful in Chicago as it would be in NYC. Somewhat helpful, but not totally helpful. Don't forget we are spread out a whole lot more with hundreds of street designations. He would need to take buses more often than just the el. The CTA is all transit within the city and would include all the bus routes. |
You're right. I found my husband's map. It's from VanDam..
http://www.vandam.com/shopflash/unfolds_a.htm The "unfolds" variety. Stays extremely small and they show the city in sections. I called them and they said that the Chicago map does have the street map in it as well as the subway/El map so I think it'll be perfect. Thanks everyone. |
