Looking for a dim sum restaurant or one with mariachis in or near Santa Monica, W.L.A., or Beverly Hills
My aunt (age 85) is coming to town from Chicago and we would like to take her to a fun Sunday brunch with mariachis or for tradtional dim sum (with the girls pushing the carts). I know that there are such places near downtown L.A., but are there any on the west side of town? If not, please recommend your favorite restaurants of these types in L.A.
Thanks!

Nope. No big dim sum houses in West LA. I checked just last month.
Also skip downtown LA Chinatown.
You'll have to go to San Gabriel, Monterey Park, Rowland Heights, etc. to get that rolling cart experience along with good and genuine dim sum. Try places like Ocean Star.
Hope your aunt has a wonderful visit!

For mariachis what about El Cholo, a wonderful and fun huge Mexican place that does brunch? I've never been there for Sunday brunch, but they always have strolling musicians during meal times, so I assume. . . There's one in Santa Monica, as well as the original one on Western Avenue.
Here's a website for more information:

They have the rolling carts at the dim sum places in downtown LA. Two good ones are Empress Pavillion or CBS Seafood. You are actually more likely to have to order off a menu in the San Gabriel valley places.
