Looking For A Casual Restaurant In (or near) Englewood, FL

I'm flying to FL from CA to visit my mom on Mother's Day. We have that day covered but I'm looking for a nice but casual place to take her to lunch for her birthday on Monday. Maybe a nice walk on the beach to follow. Any suggestions? I'm sure dinner will be something simple at her home that evening as I am flying out of Tampa very early the next morning.

When my aunt and uncle lived on Englewood Beach we always met for lunch at Mad Sams which is right on the water by the bridge to the island. Decent food, nice atmosphere, great location. I really don't know of any others to compare with, but that was their favorite.

Thanks, Neopolitan. I just googled Mad Sams and it seems to have been torn down as of 02/06.

Anyone else? Venice would also be a consideration.

Hmmm. Probably not a very good choice in that case. Sorry.

If you'd like a nice place to take Mom on her B-day you might consider Ophelia's on Siesta Key. Beautiful place.

I don't know anything on Englewood - sorry.

Thought I'd try one more time. Anyone know of a decent place for lunch on a Monday.

Greatsights: Ophilia's is not open for lunch.

Watch this space. I'm working on an answer from my cousin who just returned to Ohio after spending all winter at Englewood Beach.

Ah, cousin Linda says the BEST place for lunch in the area, casual but good is Lock N Key on Manasota Key (Englewood Beach). You can call ahead for priority seating. It is directly across the road from the public beach on Manasota Key.

She also says Gulfview Grill is very nice, and more upscale, but only open for dinner?

Neopolitan, thanks for coming through with an idea for lunch. Lock N Key sounds perfect.

Neopolitan, had a very nice lunch at Lock N Key with Mom on her birthday followed by a LONG walk on the beach. Thanks for the suggestion. We passed by the spot where Mad Sam's used to be and mom commented how everyone loved that place.
