long weekend--where to go?

We have plane tickets we must use before July 31, 2002, and are trying to find a good place to visit for 2-3 days. We don't want to have to rent a car. We are adults who like museums, outdoor activities, and historic sites. Our choices are: Chicago, Hartford CT, Louisville KY, Providence RI, and St. Louis MO. Thanks for any input!

Of those cities, I would go to Providence RI.<BR>http://www.providenceri.com/

From those choices I would also go to Providence. I really like Washington D.C for a quick break

I would go to Chicago----lots to do and good restaurants. Second choice would be Providence.

I second Chicago. Lots to do and you certainly don't need a car. Look into the CityPass for museums. Check out the architectual boat tour. Lots of good restaurants.

I wuld reccomend RI, but it is very car oriented. You can definitely do Chicago without a car and it is a city worth visiting.

St. Louis has soem great museums and historic sites, but you need a car. If you want to walk everywhere, you should probably go somewhere else.

Providence or Boston

how about philadelphia?

michele Jun 18th, 2002 04:02 AM

Unfortunately, the airline doesn't fly direct to philadelphia, or that would be an option also. Thanks everyone for the great input. I think we're going to Providence. It looks like they have a great trolley system that you can hop on and off all day as it makes stops to area attractions. Also, there is a ferry that goes to Newport, and then Newport also has a trolley. So we should have no problem without a car. It should be great. Thanks again!
