long weekend in upstate ny
My boyfriend and I are planning a long weekend in upstate ny this summer. we live in central jersey. wondering if anyone has any suggestions for small towns that might be interesting to explore. We both love wine and would love to involve some wine tasting. Also open to a lakeside experience but don't want to deal with lots of small children and large crowds. we are open to any suggestions. All help would be appreciated!!

You aren't likely to find small children [under 14 not allowed] no crowds here [only a few cabins].
It is in Lake Placid, a wonderful place to visit in summer [fall andwinter too] http://www.lakeplacidlodge.com/z-home.htm IF price is no object, this is your place -- no children under 18 but about $2000 a night or so. Saranac Lake, near Lake Placid. http://thepointresort.com/home.htm |
Inlet and Old Forge in the Adirondacks are nice towns with lakes/beaches, restaurants, shops etc. Beautiful area and could easily be combined with Lake Placid (a few days the OF area and a few days in LP)
If you want to do a lot of wine tasting you might want to consider Central New York. The Finger Lakes region is lovely and has wine "trails", shops, inns, B&B's etc. Look into Towns like Skaneateles, Geneva or Ithaca |
Sounds like the Finger Lakes region is your ticket. Wine tasting, lakes, small towns, etc. Not as as heavily visited as the more famous Adirondack lake areas such as Lake George or Lake Placid. The weekend of July 20 - 22 is the Finger Lakes Wine Festival. Info here:

Skaneateles, NY. Beatiful lakeside community with nice shops and good restaurants. Wine tasting is close by.
Lake Placid and Inlet are both good suggestions too but further drives. |
thank you all fo ryour suggestions!! I will do some research about the finger lakes..sounds perfect!!
