Long week-end to WHERE?
We need to use some Delta tickets before end of June. Any ideas for a long week-end trip that's easy to get to from Atlanta or Houston? They are the only places Delta flies to from Baton Rouge. We'd like some place that's not too hot. Thinking about Blackberry Farm in Tennessee but don't know what the weather's like. We could fly Baton Rouge-Atlanta-Knoxville and get there early afternoon.
We're open to other ideas and would like to hear from yall. Thanks |

Key West! Delta flies direct from Atlanta and what a fun place for a long weekend! |
Asheville NC is about 4 hours from Atlanta, but Delta connects to there so maybe that would work. Beautiful mountain location with lots to do. Search the forum for lots of input on Asheville.
The new Ritz Carlton Reynolds Plantation is lovely. It's on Lake Oconee about an 1 1/2 hour from Atlanta. Great spa and golf. Right on the lake. Beautiful relaxing hotel with good food. |
If you are interested in Blackberry, book quickly. We tried a couple of weeks ago to book a trip for July, and it is full already.
The Ritz on Lake Oconee would be a nice spot. |
How about NY? or Santa Fe? or chicago?

sounds like jwj wants something driving distance from Atlanta or Houston. From Atl, I second the Lake Oconee/Reynolds Plantation for a relaxing golf/spa trip. If you'd like something with more action/recreation, you may also consider Highlands, NC or Asheville, NC, the first being about 2.5 hours from Atlanta (I think) and the second being about 3.5.

Thanks for all of the suggestions. Lake Oconee is sounding really good. We could fly to Ashville. Don't want to drive more than 11/2 hours from anywhere. Love NY and Santa Fe but went to them recently. Also, just want to relax. Harder to do in a wonderful city as too much to see, etc.

If you decide on Lake Oconee, stop to eat at Blue Willow in Social Circle if you want southern cooking. Just a couple of miles off the interstate. Then, a bit down the road, stop and drive around the beautiful town of Madison, GA for a few minutes (home of ira on this board). Beautiful small town full on antebellum homes that was not burned by Sherman on his march to the sea. Lake Oconee is just down the road. The drive is 1 1/2 at the MOST. The Ritz is lovely. The golf is great (but pricey). The spa is an award winner. The hot tubs are located in front of wood burning fireplaces. Great food. Would be a wonderful relaxing spot. I've enjoyed touring some of the decorator showcase homes in the adjoining subdivision. Got some great ideas. Southern Living had a spread on one of them.
