That was hi andrew. We bought croissants that had ham in them (great, but dense) and gougeres (sp?) that were unbelievably light. The brownies that I brought home were outstanding. I had hibiscus iced tea. Everything looked delectable.

btw, I didn't know that King Tut is coming to the De Young the end of June. This is a reason to return to SF. I have regrets that I never saw the exhibit at the Met over 30 years ago. There are second chances!

It's not coming to NY? (We saw it in SF years ago, and in Egypt this past summer -- much more than travels, of course).

It sounds very good CP. It's not that far from where we stay in the financial district.

cpg,
If I ate those croissants I'd look like the King Tut exhibit.

The place on Grant you are talking about does ring a bell.

sf7307 - I think it goes to Atlanta and Dallas before SF.

CarolM Mar 13th, 2009 07:17 PM

cpg, thanks for the link to the map -- this is great!

Centralparkgirl Mar 13th, 2009 07:24 PM

Carolm - you're welcome. I think the garage is where the flower icon is to the left of the Sci Academy on the map. There are signs in the park. Also, I think JFK Drive is closed to traffic on weekends. We came in on MLK Drive from the panhandle (east entrance to the park).

cpg,
you wondered about tartine...
marin's loss is san francisco's gain.
elizabeth and chad - chef/owners of tartine originally had their bakery at point reyes and then in mill valley. it was called bay village (i think)
it was an after school treat for dd and i to have their brioche with berries and the croque monsiuer.
sadly for us, they found a bigger place in the mission and now we get to indulge just a couple of times a month.
i still order their gougeres and bouche de noel for the holidays.
glad to hear you enjoyed your visit.
besides colibri, you dined at all my favourite place.

Thanks abranz for the background. I find so many bakeries to be mediocre to average at best and Tartine is just excellent. No wonder why everyone at the tables looked happy!

sf7307 Mar 14th, 2009 07:14 PM

There was a line at Tartine Bakery last night when we passed by at 7 p.m.!!

CPG - Wow, what a busy weekend. I got tired from reading all that you did! Is your son an architecture major in Boston? Just curious.

Centralparkgirl Mar 16th, 2009 08:19 AM

Electrical Engineering in Providence. He does like architecture though.
