Long Island Wineries
I have out of towners coming in next weekend. They possibly want to go to some wineries out east. Any ideas as to which one allows for us to bring in our lunch/snacks?
Also- does anyone know of any cheap transportation to get out there- i.e. limo/towncar- so that no one has to drive? Thanks. |

Go to this website and you'll have a list of LI winderies. http://www.lieast.com/liwine.html You can check with the wineries about car service. My friends went to a hotel last year in Montauk and they paid for a certain package to have a driver for a day to visit a few wineries. |
wolffer is the best. duckwalk is nice and casual too. enjoy!

Take the Long Island Railroad and the Duck Walk Winery, as mentioned above, is great!

Most of the wineries let you bring snacks. There are numerous limo and bus tours out there.call the Greenport chamber. It is very quiet out there now so i am sure they will be glad to see you,Greenport is a great town and they have nice places for lunch as well.

There are 3 wineries on the south fork (the Hamptons) and many more on the north fork. Wolffer, Duck Walk and Channing Daughters are the south fork ones. It will be busy next weekend for Pres. weekend. From the city, the LIRR or the Hampton Jitney will get you to the south fork. Once there, you'd need a car rental or local cab. The Hampton Jitney has a limo service but it won't be cheap. There may be some wine tours on the north fork over the holiday weekend.

Long Island wineries are great for a long weekend trip outside Manhattan. You really feel like you are not in NY state. It's almost like being in New England. Check out www.northfork.org for details. We went in Sept, and the weather was gorgeous, and it is harvest season so it's very, very busy. We stayed at the Homeport B&B which was quaint but quite pricey. We ate at the Jamesport Country Kitchen which was awesome, the Seafood Barge was on a dock, and really fun at night. The wineries we recommend Bedell, Pindar. Pugliese, and Raphael. It's like being in Napa minus the long flight and pretension!
