Long Island City Hotels

I will be staying in New York in June with 2 teenage girls. Looking at staying at Best Western in Long Island City. Have seen mixed reviews on the area when coming back at night. Is the area safe or should I look in a different area to stay?

There appear to be 2 Best Westerns in LIC.
No problem with safety at either location.

The area is generally safe but it quite desolate. It is mixed use - warehouses, auto body shops etc and not very residential.

Frankly you couldn;t pay me to stay there - since it is SO unlike the best of the city - but if that is your only option it's better than not coming to NYC.

Country Inn and Suites and The Verve and also the the Holiday Inn Manhattan View are also all good choices in Long Island City. Call them directly if you need 2 Queen beds.

It's only a 10 minute ride on a #7 subway train from Queensboro Plaza (subway stop close to the hotels I mentioned) to Grand Central Station; Times Square is 3 minutes from GCT on the 7 train.

There are hotels in Manhattan where it would take you longer than that to get to these midtown locations. LIC hotels are an Excellent choice, imo.

The Country Inn and Suites as the best location. It's very close to the subway. The closest of any of the hotels if that matters to you.

The Comfort Inn is actually closest to a subway station in LIC, but if you're 3 or 4 to a room, Country Inn & the Verve are better as they have rooms with 2 queen beds vs doubles. Neither of the Best Westerns are in good locations.
