Logan ,Utah and Wyoming
I am a corporate pilot and we are flying a group to Wyoming to hunt for a week . We land in Logan,Utah and will stay in Evanston, Wyoming.I need some suggestions on what to do and see in that week. We will rent a car so will be able to drive if need be. Help please! and thanks.
Sincerely, Brett |
Brett,
How long will you be in each location to explore? What are your interests? Loni |
Westminster,
Are you hunting around the Evanston area? I guess I don't understand why flying into Logan and staying in Evanston. I live in Park City and am very familiar with the drive times. I think you would have a much shorter drive if you flew into SLC and drove to Evanston. It would be about 1.5 hours. Logan to Evanston would be longer. |
I don't understand why you are not landing in Evanston. The runway there is over 7,400' while the runway at Logan is about 4,400'.
If you have to for some reason not evident, it will be quite a drive, whichever way you go. I'm not all that familiar with Evanston but the Logan area has fishing and hiking close at hand. I would think the hunting in the northern Utah area would also be better than around Evanston unless they are going for Antelope. The university also hosts a number of cultural events as well as one of the best ice cream stores around. |
Thanks for the reply. The reason
my co-pilot and I are landing in Logan is the owner of aircraft decides where to land and where the crew stays. We will have free time for 5 days. I am not hunting or fishing, just waiting. I wanted to make use of the free time. I would like to see some of the most popular attractions. Brett |
Brett,
When is this trip? If you are hunting I guess quite soon. Logan is pretty, but other than Utah State not too much goes on. You might catch an Aggies football game, but their team stinks. There is a historical farm toward the south part of the valley. Good for a short visit. Cache Valley Cheese used to have a short tour available. The Hardware Ranch feeds elk herds in the winter and offers wagon rides. You might google for their fall activities. There is great hiking and fly fishing in Logan Canyon and the canyon is gorgeous. Evanston, ummmm. They have a small time horse racing track, but I think their season may be over. The Uinta Mountains (near Evanston)are awesome with longer hikes. If you go hiking there, you MUST be completely prepared to save yourself and know what you are doing. Not a good place to hike alone, high altitude 7,000 ft to over 11,000 ft. Some nice canoeing/kayaking on some small lakes. Park City offers lots to do and it's a 40 minute drive from Evanston. |
Also, Bear Lake is beautiful and has a Bird Refuge. It may be too cold by now for summer water sports. Bear Lake will be between Logan and Evanston.

And, last but not least, Jackson Hole is about a 3.5 hour drive from either Evanston or Logan. I don't know if your 5 days are obligation free, but if they are, head for Jackson, the Tetons and Yellowstone. You won't have a problem with last minute lodging at this time of year.
