Logan to downtown-best way?
 

What is the best way to get downtown. There will be 3 of us traveling and I didn't want to really rent a car as I heard parking is difficult......any suggestions?

Forget the car, Boston is under major road constuction, there is no place to park and many one way streets. If you don't know your way around, you'll be sorry you rented a car. It is a wonderful walking city and you won't need a car while in the city. From Logan, you can take the T (subway) which is right at the airport and a shuttle bus will drop you off at the T station.It is a 5 miute or less shuttle ride You can also take a cab. Have fun. Boston is the Best!!!

Logan is very close to downtown -- much closer than most airports in major cities, it's only about 2 miles, so renting a car is totally unncessary.<BR><BR>Certainly the T would be the cheapest -- as JAN explained, there's a free shuttle that goes around to all the terminals and drops you off at the Airport subway station. Subway fare is just $1. Boston has four subway lines, color-coded, the Airport stop is on the Blue Line. Most of downtown, however, is not, so you'll probably ahve to change to a different line. So that's 2 changes.<BR><BR>Personally, with 3 people, I'd spring for a cab ride, it will probably be $10 or $15 depending on your destination and how heavy traffic is. It will definitely be less hassle than the T and probably a lot quicker, too.<BR><BR>Where, exactly, are you staying?

Some of the downtown Boston hotels have free shuttle buses, so I suggest you check with your hotel to see if this is an option. Although the T is easy to use, if you aren't staying at the Marriott Long Wharf, most likely, you're going to have to change to either the green or the red line, which might become a hassle if you have more than 22" rolling luggage. Honestly, its worth the cab ride for 3 people. But, just a warning the tolls through the tunnel increase tomorrow, and you're going to have to pay the tolls.<BR><BR>If you're staying at the Boston Harbor Hotel, you might be interested in taking the water shuttle, as it drops you off right in front of the hotel, but I think the cost for 3 might come to quite a bit more than the cab. The cost is either $12 or $14 per person each way.

You can either take the Blue Line from the free airport shuttle to State Street (which is downtown), or, depending on where you're staying, take the Back Bay Coach, and it'll take you to your hotel for a minimal fee. Otherwise, I'd agree with Suzy to take a cab. One other option is the water taxi, again, depending on what hotel you're staying at. If it's the Harbor Hotel, Wyndham or Le Meridien, you can take the water taxi to Rowes Wharf and just walk to the hotel.
