Not knowing when the snow would clear I planned a trip for very early August.

Taking my daughter.

Two nights in Many Glacier and two nights on St Mary Lake.

It open on June 24 two years ago. We were surprised to be one of the first past the barricades. The gift shop wasn't open yet - workers were still stocking. Hard to imagine that much snow in later June. ((l)) Glacier NP.

Last year the road didn't open till mid July due to a heavy snow year. We had a relativily mild winter this year.

Maybe someday we will be there at the right time.
In November 2005 we drove up to the gate at Lake McDonald on the west side.
On June 1, we drove up to the closed gate 17 miles up from the St. Mary east gate. We were told that we could have walked up about a mile from the gate to see more snow.

It snowed on us on July 4th one year as I drove GTTS. Gotta love Glacier. :-)
