Loews Philadelphia hotel

Hi,
Anyone stayed at the Loews Philadelphia Hotel in the last 4 or 5 months? We are invited to a reunion there, but I have read VERY mixed reviews about it - the majority negative. Thanks.

Hi charli
We were just in Philadelphia last weekend. We stayed at the Penns View Inn on Market St and Front. Your Loews is on Market St also.
You might want to look through this site, it is great and you can see if you might want something smaller and less highrise There are many nice hotels in the city, t he area is full of charm and you might like a more charming place. At least with this site, you can see pictures.
If you have any questions about where to eat or what to see, there are many good posts here about Philadelphia and restaurants.
It is such a lovely city, have a great time.

I've heard lots of good things about Fork as well. I must try it sometime. Although I have not stayed at the Loews, it does appear to be a tredy/hip hotel. I would suggest eating at their restaurant, Tellers.

Sorry about the typo, I meant to say "trendy."

I believe Loews is Market and 10th, where Peensview is more than 10 blocks away. The Marriott across from the Convention Center is nice, as is the Omni on Chestnut St.

I've stayed at the Loews twice since Oct. I didn't love it the way I love the Westin but it was nice and kind of chic. We had a room with a view of the city, big bathroom with great products and towels. The beds were hard for me though and they don't use fitted sheets. There was also a nice lounge chair in the room.

The restaurant is actually very good at the hotel as is the bar. Happy hour has $4 martini's and is popular with the after work crowd.

Excellent location to Lord and Taylor, the market (can't remember it's name).

stayed at loews for a business trip and thought it was great. staff kind of full of themselves, though, in a we-think-we-are-uber-trendy sort of way. coming from someone who lived in soho for many years, i was somewhat underwhelmed. the hotel is very nice though, like many other lowes properties i've stayed at.

The Loews is actually and 12th and Market, not that 2 blocks makes that much of a difference. The market that Wendy is referring to is the Reading Terminal Market. Keep in mind that it is not open on Sundays. I guess that it goes back to the days of Pennsylvania's Blue Laws, and the fact that many Amish people are vendors there. I would also suggest going to the Italian Market for a real flavor of South Philadelphia. It's open every day until 5 PM and on Sunday's until noon. The quality of the produce, meats, and cheeses are excellent, and the prices are much better than at Reading Terminal. While your're there, try either Geno's or Pat's, both at 9th and Passyunk, for an authentic Philly cheesesteak or hoagie. My favorite is Geno's. I also hear that Jim's Steaks at 4th and South is very good.
