Lodging suggestions...Talkeetna, Fairbanks, Denali National Park area

We are a couple in our 50's looking for suggestions of places to stay in these areas. $100-150/night price range, private bath, clean...B & B, lodge, hotel/motels are all workable for us. Thanks!

My Favorite B@B in the whole US is in Fairbanks. Unfortunately I'm away from my files so I'll have to get back to you on Mary's B@B's name. We also enjoyed a less expensive spot outside of Denali - a simple but very clean little A-frame cabin. My question for you is, If the B@B is more than $150 and the Denali spot is less than $100.00 so that the average of the nights is between $100 and 150 - does that work for you? If it does I think you'll love both spots.

From a previous post of mine:
"In Healy: The Denali Dome Home http://www.denalidomehome.com/
I can't say enough positive things about them. Spacious, well-appointed rooms, excellent, cooked-to-order breakfasts, and gracious hospitality. Oh, don't let me forget, moderate prices too. AAA 3 diamond rating speaks for itself. Check out their trip advisor reviews: http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserReviews-g31007-d72283-r8518655-Denali_Dome_Home_Bed_and_Breakfast-Healy_Alaska.html"

If you go there, be sure to have dinner at the Black Diamond Grill http://www.blackdiamondgolf.com/blackdiamondgrill.html . It was surprisingly good and recommended by the owners of the Denali Dome Home.

jkDavis,
I checked my files and the B@B we loved in Fairbanks is www.allseasonsinn.com The rooms run from $129.00-149.00 - on special right now I guess. That was our "civilized" day - so peaceful and relaxing 3 days hiking and touring the park. It rivals anything we have found in the lower states. -Best Breakfast and the owner is a travel agent who can answer any questions. At Denali we stayed at www.denaliperchresort.com. The Perch is a little rustic but it has homemade quilts and a lovely woodsy feel. It also has a nice restaurant on premises - way high on the mountain overlooking Denali (the room used to include a breakfast - maybe still does - really good food.) It also has a pizza joint on premises which we enjoyed one night while ordering our box lunches for the park bus tour the next morning. But it sounds like you have other good choices for that night in the other posts. I know you'll have a fabulous time wherever you stay - the beauty of Alaska is almost incomprehensible. Have a wonderful time!

Thanks for your input! We found the B & B in Fairbanks and it looks great, as does the Denali Dome Home. We are still unsure about a place in Talkeetna. We have checked out several online reviews and sites and are using the AAA book, Milepost, Frommer's, etc. for info, but would love to hear some firsthand accounts from folks who have actually stayed in some places there recently. Thanks again for taking the time to reply! Can't wait to get there!

Hi jkdavis . . .

We just returned from our fabulous Alaskan holiday and offer the following thoughts for your consideration. In Talkeetna, we stayed at the Susitna River Lodging for three nights and can give you our highest recommendation. The husband and wife owner team (Howard and Darlene) are superb hosts. They offer large suites and enormous cabins (all spotless) as accommdations. The SRL sits on the quiet banks of the Susitna River and is about a 15-minute walk into "downtown" Talkeetna. Must places to eat in Talkeetna include the Roadhouse (for scrumptious sourdough pancakes, quiches, and pastries), West Rib (for savory seafood chowder, buffalo chili, and burgers), and Wildflower (for amazing salads and organic yummies!) Have a great trip . . .
