Lodging recommendations in Poipu?
Hi,
We are going to Kauai next week, for 6 days. We are thinking of splitting our time between the north and the south shore so that we can stay on the beachfront for a couple of days with our toddler. Any recommendations for hotels/condo walkable to the beach in Poipu? We definitely are not looking to spend more than $200 a night. $150 is more comfortable. Thanks very much! |
Also, any good tours to Napali from the north shore? I could only find tours from Poipu but since we are staying in the Princeville area for a few days, it might be quicker and easier to go from the north shore??

You should be looking on the Hawaii branch of TripAdvisor. Many more Hawaii posters.
With a kid, I would stay in one place for the entire 6 days. You may also find that many places have 5 night minimum stays. www.tripadvisor.com |
Good advice from Placename, lot of active posters over on TA Kauai forums. I agree with staying the whole time in one place, it is not that big of an island. Plus if you are staying in a condo, most of them charge cleanout fees, which you would have to pay twice if you move.
When you talk about tours of Napali I presume you are talking about the boat tours of the NaPali coast? No boats running out of the North Shore now, most of them stop in October or November as the surf starts to get too rough. Check with one of the outfits that goes out of Port Allen in the West shore. Some of them have age restrictions on kids, think maybe Captain Andy's would allow some smaller children. Book your trip early in case they have to cancel due to weather. |
Take a look at Manualoha and Kahala at Poipu Kai Resort:
http://www.hawaiigaga.com/kauai/cond...poipu-kai.aspx http://www.hawaiigaga.com/kauai/cond...poipu-kai.aspx You can see from the aerial photos that they're very close to the beach and the prices are reasonable (you'll find several options around $150/night). You may want to consider doing a whale watching boat tour instead (as mentioned Napali boat tours don't operate this time of year). I think a toddler would enjoy that more. If you do decide to split your stay, think about getting an early check in with your second accommodation. |
Sheraton Kauai was running specials that might fit your price range. Poipu Beach would be a bit of a walk from the Sheraton with a toddler, but it possibly would work. We also had a good experience at Poipu Plantation condos. It's not on the water but it's a fairly short walk to Brennecke's and Poipu Beach.
We took a boat tour last month out of Port Allen and the afternoon was way too rough. I suspect that mornings would be better. We have been in the morning in November and it was OK. |
