Lodging Recommendations for Louisville, KY

Hello. We are 3 couples (65 and fully vaccinated) who want to travel to Kentucky to check out distilleries. We will fly in and out of SDF and spend the first 3 days in Bardstown. The remaining 2 days we want to stay closer to Louisville and take in a race at Churchill Downs (this is after the Derby). We would like to stay at a vrbo or similiar, but we are also agreeable to staying in a hotel. The problem is that I am not familiar with the area and have no way of knowing where would be a good location. We will rent a car so we'll be mobile. I've read lots of reviews and The Brown Hotel looks attractive but reviews are all over the place, not the least of which is that the surroundings are a little sketchy.

Does anyone have any advice for me? We already have reservations in Bardstown, so that part is done. We just need to find something in Louisville.

Thanks a lot for any recommendations or suggestions.

Either the Brown or the Seelbach historic hotel is top notch, although there isn't much "downtown" downtown anymore. Much of the action has moved a few blocks over to the river. There is a 21C Hotel, very la-te-dah (and expensive), with art for sale displayed on the walls. If you are interested in museums (e.g., the Ali Center, the Slugger Bat Museum where you will be given a miniature Louisville Slugger baseball bat,) or Whiskey Row on Main Street, a possible ride on the Belle of Louisville riverboat, lots of stuff going on. But you should check online to be sure what is open, and Google will give you a lot of information.

If you don't want to stay in the downtown, you can find something on the north side of the Ohio River in Indiana. The Raddison has both indoor and outdoor pools. It also has 2 restaurants attached.
