lodging recommendation on st. augustine beach
Does anyone have suggestions on where to stay on St. Augustine beach (directly on beach).

Do you mean only St. Augustine Beach (proper) or do you include Crescent Beach?
Also, motel or condo? How many people? Price range? When? |
Sorry, not familar with the area. We want to stay right on the beach but not be too far from the historic district.
girl's weekend - 4 of us. motel $100 - 150 Beginning of August '07 |
I drove slowly through St. Augustine Beach this afternoon and jotted down the names of the motels on the East (beach) side of highway A1A. Some are closer to the ocean than others but all are on the ocean side. Here are the choices:
St. Augustine Beachfront Resort (904) 471-2575 (800) 752-4037 Hampton Inn (904) 471-4000 Castillo Real Resort Hotel (904)471-3505 Holiday Inn La Fiesta Ocean Inn & Suites (904) 471-2220 St. Augustine Island Inn (877) 471-1440 (toll free) From a quick drive-by, it appears that the Hampton Inn and La Fiesta may have the best location (i.e. proximity to the ocean). The others may be as much as 1/8-1/4 block from the water. Please check this out further. Again, ALL are on the ocean side. I have no idea of prices. If you are willing to stay about 10 minutes south in nearby Crescent Beach, the clear choice would be Beachers Lodge <http://www.beacherslodge.com/> which is direct oceanfront. A King-sized unit might hold 4 adults. They have the best location with respect to the beach, and it is a georgeous beach. (Parts of St. Augustine Beach near the St. Augustine Beachfront Resort and the Hampton Inn may be rocky. Ask each property about this. Beachers Lodge is furthest away from the historic district but only about 20 minutes away on A1A. The distance is negligible. Hope this helps some! |
Thanks for the info. I agree, I can deal with the distance for the right location. Thanks again for letting me know about Crescent Beach.

FYI we were there quite a few years ago, and some of the hotels (the Hampton was one of them) had jetties that ran parallel to the beach in front. So, in other words, there was no ocean swimming available. Horrible if you have kids. We went a half mile south and checked the beach before inquiring about vacancies. Ended up getting a two bedroom at the La Fiesta, it was very nice (but this was years ago). Just wanted to give you a heads up to see if those jetties are still there.
