lodging reccomendations
 

Need some reccomendations on lodging in Seward,Fairbank,Cordova and Denali. B&Bs OK or cabins. Best choice between Grande Denali or Denali Bluffs at Denali or any other suggestions. Anyone ever stay at Rock Creek Country Inn? Traveling by car-2 couples- first part of June. Moderate pricing. Thanks for your help. R

In Fairbanks, Seven Gables is a very nice B&amp;B. Lovely rooms, great breakfasts, and I think the price was reasonable (for Alaska) since I know I was watching lodging prices very carefully on my trip in '99. (www.7gablesinn.com) I think it was one of the nicest places I stayed the whole 2+ weeks I was in Alaska.<BR><BR>In Seward, we stayed at the Harborview Inn. Nice, clean, new hotel-type room. (www.alaskan.com/harborviewinn)<BR><BR>Near Denali, just outside Talkeetna, we stayed at the Talkeetna Alaskan Lodge. Again, nice, new, clean hotel-type rooms, but the lodge had a huge deck with a wonderful view; we got a bottle of wine from the adjacent restaurant (good food, by the way) and sat out on the deck &amp; took in the view of the mountains. WOW - Just looked at the rates for the Talkeetna Alaskan Lodge - they have skyrocketed! The other 2 I recommended are still reasonable, though.

I stayed at the Denali Bluffs and I thought it was the best hotel up there. The Grande Denali is nice, but way up on the hill and I think some of the rooms don't have views. Don't get me wrong, it's a nice hotel, but I thought the Bluffs had more cabin-like personality. You can walk more easily from the Bluffs around the town (which is small anyway), although the shuttle service runs for both hotels. If you go to the park, take the park shuttle, not the tour bus. You will save a lot of cash and get the same tour. In Seward, check out the Windsong Lodge. Enjoy.

We found that a few people recommended the Denali Domehome B&amp;B, so we made reservations there. They are in Healy which is north of Denali. Talkeetna is too far away from Denali. The B&amp;B is charging us about $111 plus tax &amp; will reduce the amount for AAA.

Here are my favorites: In Seward, I like the Seward Windsong Lodge. In Fairbanks, try the Aspen Hotel. In Cordova, I prefer the Reluctant Fisherman. In Denali...uh, that's more complex. Around the entrance, i think the Princess is best (I do not like either of your choices). But consider going D-E-E-P into the park wtih the Denali Backcountry Lodge. Or, go over the mountains the other way to Denali Wilderness Lodge. Both are spectacular, although more expensive. Consider, however, that the Denali Backcountry Lodge includes the 95-mile ride intothe park and all meals, activities, etc. Have you looked at the tour saver booklet?

For my trip in June, 2002, to Alaska, I stayed at B&amp;Bs, room with queen size bed and private bath. there were 2 I used in Fairbanks - one is Fairbanks B&amp;B owned by Barbara Neubauer.$85 + tax ; we made our own breakfast, otherwise cereal and danish is what you get. she was quite entertaining with her views about everything. The only problem we had was hot water ran out now and then. The second B&amp;B in Fairbanks was Townsite, same price. The rooms were brand new, breakfast were delicious omelet plus anything you want if they had it, which were almost any breakfast stuff, and most of all, plenty of hot water.<BR><BR>In Seward, I stayed at Mrs Clock's B&amp;B for $80 (for everything) and the room had a refrigerator, stove, and stocked with all sorts of goodies, all included. She also made the most delicious quiche I ever had.<BR><BR>At Denali, I stayed 6 miles south of the park entrance at Denali Grizzly Bear. The cabin had a toilet and sink, but no shower for $67.41 total. They do have cabins with private showers.<BR><BR>hope this helps.
