Lodging on Big Island and Kauai
 

Heading to both IslandsBig Island and Kauai in Sept. would luv suggestions, all about water views but open to interesting places with unique atmosphere but good credentials. Under $400 a night would be good, also any advice on travel from one Island to the next would be great.

Flying is how you get between islands. You might want to try to fly into Kauai and out of Big Island (if possible) to avoid backtracking or having to go thru Honolulu.

Don't overlook Hilo, if you run into car rental or lodging issues such as cost and availabillity on the west side of the Big Island. Last year I met several people who could not find cars out of the airport in Kona. With the (relatively) new road over the Saddle one can do a day trip to the west coast beaches.

It's just as easy to get to Volcano NP from Hilo. You can also find lodging in or near the Volcano NP. No guarantees about which side will be rainy and which dry, I did not have the usual weather pattern and Hilo was beautiful when I was there in November ( I just missed a big storm, though).

Kauai had gotten very expensive, good luck with your search there.

In September I would stay on the North Shore.

Try Kauai Shores which is often sold out but if available should be a hair under $400 for a basic motel with good beach proximity. It's pretty centrally located.

For September, in your price range, I would look at Princeville condos. In your price range check, Sealodge and Ali'i Kai (where I live). In those complexes, the views vary between units. There are less expensive lodgings with no views--and more expensive condos that are more upscale with great views. I have one of the better views at Ali'i Kai. This is my view ...
