Lodging near Yankee Stadium

We will be in New York in June to see a Yankee game. Can anyone suggest a place to stay that would be convenient for taking the subway to the game. We are two adults and two kids. Would like to stay under $200. Doesn't need to be fancy, just clean.

There really aren;t any tourist hotels in the Bronx. You need to stay in Manhattan and take the subway. But $200 for 4 people will be very tough in June. I don't know anyplace with prices that low unless you find a deal on travelzoo (60 to 90 days out - they sometimes have things for $199 - which is about $230 with tax) or kayak.com.

Your other option is to stay in New Jersey or Westchester and rent a car. Don;t know how much that would save you given the cost of renting a car and the $40 parking at the Stadium - and is not a great idea if you want to see other things in Manhattan too.

If you'll be here for a week you might try getting an apartment, which can be cheaper - but $200 is still low - esp for a room for 4 people. (In NYC 12 and up is considered an adult - and many rooms simply won;t hold 4 - they have just one double or 2 twin beds.)

Even the Hotel Newton on the upper west side - which is very basic, although clean and reliable - is showing rates of around $300 including tax in June for a double double room (2 double beds) with private bath.

You might check it for your specific dates to see if you can get a better deal - since they have some rooms with shared baths.

Well, as others have noted, a room for 4 is really tough for under $200 any time of the year. June isn't particularly expensive, but its not as cheap as say Jan-March.

You don't mention the exact dates (a few days can make a huge difference in rates), and for how long, but I plugged in a random weekend in June (14-16) and found the rates at some Courtyard by Marriotts was not as bad as I expected.
The one on the upper east side (not a particularly convenient location, but actually not too bad for Yankee Stadium access) has a room with 2 queen beds, for 4 people for $259 per night ($297 with taxes). This rate can be cancelled up to a day before arrival. Similar rates at a couple other of their hotels, but only for rooms with 2 doubles or a king and a sofabed.

If you're looking to stay in Westchester county (North of NYC) then Tarrytown would be a good location. It's about 30min from the stadium - a straight shot on I87.

Parking will cost you about $15 for the game. Get off I87 at Exit 6 and follow the flow. If you decide to go that route, then be sure to post back here for detailed directions to/from the stadium.

Your better off staying at a hotel in midtown on the east side. You can take the number 4 subway to the stadium. Its less than a 25 minute ride.
This way you can avoid the hastle of traffic and finding a parking place. Its a very safe subway ride to the stadium.

If you can find any hotel in Manhattan at that price for your dates, you can get to Yankee stadium from it. June is expensive. If you can wait until beginning of July, you will see cheaper prices.

The Sheraton on the Hudson in Weehawken, NJ can be had for ~$219/night. You can take a ferry from there to Yankee stadium (nywaterway.com) or take a ferry or bus to Manhattan and take the subway.
