I know I'm late for trying to book but we were just invited to a wedding in Montana and decided to drive there from MN and make it a vacation. We plan to spend 3 days in/near Glacier. I already tried the Park Service and nothing is available. Can anyone recommend somplace in West Glacier or near to there? We will be in that area July 31 to August 3rd and then will head to Boseman for the wedding. It's my husband, 23 year old daughter and myself. Thanks for any info.

It may be too late for VRBO, but we stayed in a nice vacation home in West Glacier two years ago with our 18 y.o. and 21 y.o. children. I think it would definitely be worth checking for rentals in the area because we really enjoyed the extra space (and kitchen) that we got with a VRBO property.

Our favorite place near Glacier is the Izaac Walton Inn. Not cheap, but wonderful. It was originally the housing for train workers and has been turned into a quirky hotel with a train theme. There's lots of space for teenagers to roam and explore on the grounds.

It's good to hear the nice review of the Izaac Walton Inn. We didn't stay there but stopped by and looked around. It's in a beautiful location with lots of flowers and hummingbirds. The owners of our house recommended the restaurant at the Izaak Walton, especially the steaks, but we didn't eat there.

We stayed nearby in a privately owned home and really liked the location. Hwy 2 runs between West and East Glacier along the southern border of the park. If the Going to the Sun road is not open, you have to travel on Hwy 2 to get to one side of the park to the other. The town on the map is Essex, MT.

The owners are very nice and helpful. We ate breakfast at their cafe, got lots of travel tips from them and even bought our tickets for the boat ride at Many Glaciers for later in the day. The hotel is nothing fancy but very clean and well maintained.

We were surprised at how long the days were. Dusk didn't start until about 9pm. So we usually ate at one of the restaurants in the park or picked something up to eat at East Glacier as we drove home. The timing was great because that was the perfect timing to stop at the Goat Lick for photos as dusk.

"Glacier National Park goats travel as far as 4 miles to get to the Goat Lick, while others from more widely dispersed areas in the Flathead National Forest, travel several times that distance. April through August are the most concentrated periods, although use occurs year-round. A population of approximately 115-165 goats use the lick. Elk and deer also are attracted to these natural minerals."
