Lodging in West Virginia--Harpers Ferry area
A friend and I are thinking about going to VW for a long weekend, possible late October. Hiking is the main objective.
I've looked at lodging a bit, and nothing is jumping out as just right. I'm seeing a handful of B&Bs, and a few fairly ordinary chain motels. Other than not spending hundreds per night, don't have a particular price-point, just looking for something pleasant and comfortable.
Any suggestions for lodging...and food (I think we're both interested in better than average) appreciated.

LOL!! Helps to know the geography, doesn't it? You can certainly stay IN the town in one of those B+B's and from recollection of trooping up and down those fun and steep streets I suspect there is something.
Used to go up there a lot when we lived in Virginia and it is a lovely spot but cannot help with any overnight recommendations. Hope you enjoy the trip and at that time of year the views and foliage should be wonderful.

The Panhandle is beautiful that time of year! Harper's Ferry is a neat town. We live in Northern VA and my husband hikes around there all the time. If you don't mind a 20 minute or so drive, I'd stay at the Bavarian Inn in Shepherdstown. They have rooms for $99 if you don't mind forgoing a view. The restaurant there is fantastic and Shepherdstown is a neat place to walk around. The tiny house on campus is one of my favorite stops and the Rumsey Monument has an amazing view. I'm partial to the Blue Moon Cafe but that's partly nostalgia. The food's pretty good. The Sweet Shop does nice breakfast rolls. I grabbed and ham and Swiss on the way to class pretty often.
Enjoy your trip!
