Lodging in Portland, Or. near Rose Garden,

Can anyone recommend a decent place to stay near the Rose Garden that is safe and clean. I am attending an event at the garden and need an overnight room. Also anything close by that is on the Max line would be ok, as well. Thanks. Safe and clean really important
to us.

I know the area very well (I live 1/2 mile north of the Rose Garden) but I don't know how clean the hotels are. I do know that the Doubletree Lloyd Center is probably a good bet - right at a MAX stop but you could walk from there to the Rose Garden in only about ten minutes anyway. And I have read favorable reviews of it.

There are several hotels close to the Rose Garden. There's a Holiday Inn (formerly a Radisson) nearby also - supposedly it's merely OK as a hotel but rooms are clean. FYI, I read reviews of these hotels on BiddingForTravel.com, a site for Priceline.com users.

Both hotels would be safe.

Yes!
The Park Lane Suites http://www.parklanesuites.com/
is located 2 blocks from the Rose Garden. You can walk.
It is afe and clean. We stay there every time we are in Portland because I love the neighborhood and the location.
When there, I take my 3 mile walk daily up through the Rose Garden.
There are usually "special" rates if you look or ask...I think one is the Portland "bid deal".

If I knew how to correct my spelling on this forum I would...but it should read:
Safe and Portland BIG Deal!

Since there is a MAX line stop at/near the Rose Garden, you could stay at any number of places in central downtown Portland, and still be within a 10 minute ride/walk away.

For clarification, I assume the original poster means the Rose Garden arena on the east side, not the International Rose Test Gardens on the west side.

I agree with beachbum. Check www.travelportland.com for good hotel deals. Portland is a clean, safe town.

We just returned from Portland and stayed a the Holiday Inn (formerly Raddison) and it was great....
Very nice rooms, good food, free shuttle to Max line(3 blocks),very helpful staff, great fitness room and free internet hookup in room or 2 computers off lobby.
We found this area room prices much more reasonable than "downtown"
Interesting ---they call it Holiday Inn DOWNTOWN ..To me downtown is west of the Willamette River ---area you are refering to is east of the river!!!.
This issue is of utmost importance if you are bidding on Priceline as their map shows BOTH sides of the river as Downtown.
(Hotwire separates these two areas.)
I bid $49 on 3 star hotel and got the Holidays Inn.. Which at first upset me, as I wanted the other side of the rive, however it trurned out quite well I was quoted $89 by phone at same property....
I also agree with "beachbum" and the Max line is free .
Love Portland....

Thanks everyone for your help, much appreciated. I am looking for area near Rose Garden arena. Sounds like these places mentioned would suit my needs.

I forgot to mention that there's a Courtyard by Marriott nearby also, right on Martin Luther King Blvd. I walked by it on the way to the MAX today. It's about a three block walk to the MAX but only about a six block walk to the Rose Garden. I've not been inside this hotel, but usually Courtyards are pretty nice.
