Lodging in Pacific Grove or Carmel
Flying into SanJose on a Friday morning and driving to Carmel-Pacific Grove area to have a look before heading for San Francisco on Hwy1 Saturday. Any recommendation on B&B's, Hotels and resturants in that area or information on places of interest and driving time appreciated.

Hi Alex,

I stayed at a B&B in Pacific Grove a few years ago called GOSBY HOUSE INN. It is a very pretty Vicotrian style house with very nice decorations inside. I remember it had some very nice touches such as a newpaper delivered to every room in the morning, a refrigerator stocked with sodas that were always available. We stayed in a very nice large room and then wanted to stay longer. We had to take what we could get for a longer stay, so we then transferred to a smaller room. The only thing I didn't like about the smaller room was that the "shower" was an old victorian bathtub on 4 legs and they only way to shower was with one of those handheld shower heads. Otherwise, I would highly recommend this place. The same people have some other B&Bs in Ca and I believe their website is www.foursisters.com.

I live in San Francisco, so if you have any more specific questions, please feel free to email me. SF is a wonderful city!

I live in Pacific Grove and above poster is correct on Gosby House. They are downtown PG. If you want an water view B and B try the Green Gables or the Seven Gables. Both overlook the Monterey Bay and are very nice. In fact, PG really has a better selection of these places than Carmel.

We stayed at the Carriage House Inn one weekend and we loved it. It is very romantic and charmning, and the service is excellent. A bit on the pricier side, but they pamper you with wine, cheese, cookies, lattes, continental breakfast, etc. They give you complimentary champagne and bottled water. They also have rooms with jacuzzi tubs. The innkeepers are very knowledgeable about the area. If you decide to stay there, bring your favorite cd and a movie to watch in your room (they have a small selection for you to choose from also). Here is the link if you are interested:

http://looksmart.placestostay.com/sc...id=1122&n=1003

Also, may I recommend the Flying Fish Grill, asian fusion food in the shopping plaza (reservations a must) and if you are into leather, the Coach Factory Outlet (down the street from the Flying Fish Grill) for excellent deals on leather goods.

It can get chilly there, be sure to bring a jacket. Have a great time!

PS. We also ate at Robert's Boulevard Bistro (french food) at the Crossroads center, but found the food to be over-rated and too expensive, although the ambiance was nice and romantic (think candlelight).

Drive times: If you leave San Jose after the morning rush hour you can get to Pacific Grove in about an hour. You will be going reverse commute.

To get from Pacific Grove to SF along Hwy. 1 on a Saturday will take you anywhere from 2 to 3 hours, depending on traffic. If the weather is nice that day there will be lots of people on the road heading to the beach. Inland on Hwy. 101 would be faster but the drive up Hwy. 1 is beautiful. A great place to stop for lunch would be the Moss Beach Distillery just north of Half Moon Bay. And the tide pools right there at the Fitzgerald Marine Reserve are really good. Have a great trip!

I'm also going to Monterey Peninsula. Have reservation at Sunset Inn. Is it a nice place?
