lodging in monument valley and bryce canyon

Does anyone have suggestions for lodging in monument valley and bryce canyon? The books only talk about Gouldings, Bryce Lodge and Ruby's Inn, which are full.

Check out Kayenta. There was a Best Western, Hampton Inn and Holiday Inn there. Goulding is "THE" place to stay in the area.

Just a note - Best Western, Hampton Inn and Holiday Inn are in AZ instead of UT, and are about 20 minutes drive from Monument Valley. If your books are for UT only they may not mention any of the nearby AZ lodgings. I stayed at the Hampton Inn and it was decent.

If you are looking for something on the "rustic" side and don't mind driving about 50 miles, Recapture Lodge in Bluff, UT offers wonderful speakers on most nights. When I was there they gave talks on the outstanding archaeological sites found in the area.

We stayed at the Holiday Inn in Kayenta and it was very nice. They had an excellent gift shop as well.

Hello,
I would like to mention a bed and breakfast in the Valley of the Gods, a miniature version of Monument valley. The Goosenecks are not far and the place is very secluded.
Breakfasts are served on the porch with a magnificent view of the Valley of the Gods.Excellent home cooked by your delightful hosts.
Monument valley is about 40miles away, will have to check the map,it is closer than Bluff.
If you do decide to stay, take a picnic for your evening meal as there is not much in the way of restaurants in the area. The famous Mokee dugway a zig zag road cut out of a mtn, elevation 11,000 ft is 5 mins from the b and b.
Let me know if you need more info,
Angie

look at staying in Tropic, UT which is about 8 miles from Bryce. We stayed at the Bryce Canyon Inn and liked it. - do a Fodors search on Tropic and you should find more info

The Bryce Canyon Pines motel is ok. But it too may be full.
Try Panguitch, Utah. The Best Western there is fine on my scale of values.

We just stayed at the Desert Rose Inn in Bluff Utah and would recommend it. I also agree about the B&B in Valley of the Gods as a great choice. Don't miss the Valley of the Gods - it was a fantastic drive.

We've stayed at Gouldings and the Holiday Inn in Kayenta. We preferred the latter, which is operated by local Native Americans. The motel also has a very good, reasonably priced restaurant which is frequented by locals.

I should add that when we went to Bryce Canyon we stayed at a Mom and Pop motel which was clean but nondiscript.

I can second the recommendation to look for lodging in Tropic, Utah. A friend and I stayed in a small cabin with 2 queen beds, and were very satisfied with the accomodations. It's a 10-15 minute drive from the entrance to Bryce Nat'l Park.

For lodging near Monument Valley, I second delph17's suggestion for Valley of the God's B&B. We stayed there last fall for a few nights. The setting is just breathtaking! And you're pretty close to Monument Valley. We drove down and back for sunset one evening. Check out the inn's website at:

Hi Sharondi,
Glad you stayed there upon my reccomendation to you last year, I was looking for your post to see how you liked it.Looks like you have been doing alot of travelling in Utah.
Last year I did Grand Tetons and Yellowstone and this year going to Oregon, coast and Columbia Gorge area, giving the red rocks a breather, but I can tell you once you have been in the south west there is something that draws you back, no doubt next year we will be back in Utah !.

NYKR orig post, I have also stayed in the Desert Rose Inn in Bluff, very comfortable in a small town (one st),if I had to choose again I would do the
B& B in the Valley of the Gods.
