Lodging in Jackson Wyo. or Grand Teton?
 

We are traveling through Yellowstone and GT on our way from Montana (in August). Already have 2 nights booked in Yellowstone at the Snow Lodge, but am wondering what pros, cons & recommendations there are to be had in staying right in Grand Teton National Park vs. staying in Jackson. We're traveling with my parents and walking will be somewhat limited for one of us. Thanks.

We've done both. There are pros and cons of each. However, if you are only staying a short time (i.e., a couple days), I would recommend staying in the park, as it will give you more time to enjoy the splendor of the Teton.
Having said that, you will probably have a tough time securing lodging within the park at this late date!
However, fear not, the Teton is not that far away from Jackson, so you can easily stay there and make the drive (about 12 miles to the entrance).

It is definitely not far from jackson to Tetons. Everytime we've gone there we have stayed in Jackson Hole because you have easy access to more restaurants, etc during the evening. Don't know if you're interested in a bed and breakfast, but if so, there is one called The Wildflower Inn in jackson hole. It is actually outside of town a few minutes in the direction of the park. The people who own it are absolutely awesome and are very knowledgeable on the area. We stayed there one winter and they were able to offer us great ideas for snowshoeing so I'm sure they do the same for hiking in the summer if you're into hiking. Have a great time! I love both those parks!!

To avoid any possible geographic confusion, Jackson is the name of the town, while Jackson Hole is the name of the area of which the town of Jackson is part.

I too am looking for lodging in this area. Sept that is. Have places in & around park but need two nights around Jackson & Grant Teton before we fly out. Looking for something reasonable fairly cheap if there is such a thing.

How much is "reasonable fairly cheap"?

We paid 80$ anight atthe Quality Inn 49ers in June, which was fine place, not great but acceptable and very clean...good location too. FYI, Judy

Looking for something under $100, in the 80's or low 90's would be nice...dreaming probably! Not used to the prices out West I guess.

BFB, are you a member of AAA? If so, get its Wyoming guide, where you'll find a choice of places in your price range.

We stayed at Angler's Inn in Jackson and it was very reasonable. Nothing fancy.

No I don't belong to AAA...and to join for this one trip wouldn't really be saving anything I think.

Any suggestions on what to do for two days around Tetons & Jackson? Grand Teton National Park Scenic Float Trips, how are they? Not the whitewater ones just nice floating!

The float trip is a good idea during your two days.
Other suggestions:
*Take the ferry at Jenny Lake and climb to Hidden Falls and Inspiration Point.
*Drive down Antelope Flats Road to see and walk around the picturesque Moulton Barn and view the bison up close. A great photo op: the barn with the Teton in the background.
*Have a meal--breakfast, lunch or dinner--outdoors at Dornan's.
*Stop at Oxbow Bend and the Snake River Overloop for some magnificent views.
*Drive up to Signal Mountain to view the sunset.

Thanks for the suggestions, they sound great. Question on the drive up to Signal Mountain to see the sunset....great idea & would love it but what is the road like? Hairpins turns, dropoffs? Haven't done much in the way of mountain driving, though the Beartooth highway from I hear should take care of that!
