Lodging in Homer and Seward Alaska
 

I am looking for accomodations in both Homer and Seward. Any recommendations for a family of 4 with 2 teenagers? Also how many days should we stay in each town. We will be in Alaska for 8 days and we are concentrating on the peninsula area. Thank you.

We just stayed 4 nights in Seward at the Sourdough Sunrise B&B. It's got fabulous carpentry and wonderful sourdough pancakes for breakfast. Rooms have TVs and DVD players for your teens, but there's not a pool, if that's important to them. It's just a short distance from the road to Exit Glacier.

Crane's Rest b&b in Homer. I would stay in Homer 2-3 nights. I kayaked with St. Augustine.. great!!!! Crane's Rest is out of town.. so you may want to get a place closer to the Spit so as not to have bored teenagers. I loved staying at the Crane's Rest.

In Homer, we stayed at the Ocean House Inn in August '07 and loved it. Lots of room. Great location. Incredible views. There's been a change in owners since we were there. http://www.homeroceanhouse.com/

In Seward, we stayed in the Salt Water Lodge and thoroughly enjoyed it. It could also accommodate your size group. We took their combo tour (fishing and wildlife) and enjoyed it even though it was not the best of days. It's a bit south of Seward by about 10 minutes by car, if I remember correctly, but that was not an issue. We stayed in the large downstairs 2 BR unit which was terrific. Gas grill was great for cooking the salmon we caught. Talk about fresh!! Only negatives were the noise from upstairs, but the folks there quieted down once they learned of the problem, and not much closet space. For your group, you could rent the whole unit. Great views.

We stayed at Raspberry Hill Cottage in Homer in June 2007. I think their web site is raspberryhillalaska.com. They have stunning views, even the bathroom has a window without curtain because of the incredible views! They have a queen bed downstairs and a king bed in the loft. Also have a living room, eating area, kitchen, a deck and a gas grill.

We stayed at Holiday Inn Express in Seward because we used our Priority Club points. I did not do any research for B&B there. We stayed at a room with two queen beds with harbor view. It has a balcony and a beautiful view.

We stayed at Salt Water Lodge and liked it. Their wildlife cruise is probably the best in the area.
