Lodging in Girdwood

Any recommendations for lodging in Girdwood, AK. The Alyeska Resort is too expensive for my family. Also, anyone know the cost of the tram that takes you up to Mt. Alyeska?

we booked a Glacier Hike and that included our tram ticket. Hike the "Winner Creek Trail" right near the base of the tram.

Girdwood Guesthouse was wonderful.
Us - a family of 4 stayed there last summer..We took the tram and it was worth it. I think we had coupons out of an Alaska map book, and I think they were buy one get one free...

Well, I finally just "bit the bullet" and booked a night at the Alyeska Resort on Expedia for $259.

How many in your family?
We stayed at a B & B called Northern Comfort Lodging in Girdwood. The suite which was fabulous can accomodate 4 people. Jane the host was equally exceptional. It was a great start to our vacation.

My recollection is that tram tickets are $12, but if you have a drink at the top the tram may be free.

I love staying at the hotel there and don't think you'll be disappointed. To save money, instead of paying $14 for breakfast at the Pond Cafe, try some of the places on the way out -- going toward Anchorage.

Ask for a room facing the mountain. I'm not sure what they do in summer but in winter there are lights on the chairlift, the tram, the ice rink, trees etc.
