Lodging in Eugene and Ashland Oregon
I would like recommendations of lodging in Eugene, Oregon and Ashland, Oregon for a road trip in February. Main thing is a quiet location and has exterior entrance.
Thank you so much. |
The Downtown Inn. Never stayed there as I live here. Close to campus, Whole Foods grocery.

Previous post is Eugene.

I'm confused by what you mean by exterior entrance. Pretty much any building has to be entered from outside. Do you mean a motel-type setup where you don't have to walk past reception to get to your room? Or...? Also, what's your budget? And do you want to be downtown or within walking distance of the university, restaurants etc? Or would something at the edge of town work for you just as well?

The EconoLodge on 6th Ave. in Eugene is within walking distance of the Hult Center for the Performing Arts. There is also an EconoLodge just off the Ashland exit of I-5. Depending on where your road trip originates, you may have some white knuckle driving in the snow in February. During winter storms, I-5 is often closed near the California/Oregon border at the Sis-Q (sic) summit. The easiest and safest way to get to downtown Eugene in winter weather is on the Amtrak Coast Starlight. The northbound train arrives in the early afternoon when on time. The southbound train is in Eugene sometime after 5PM.
I prefer the hotels that have interior corridors in the winter so that I don't have to be afraid of climbing up exterior stairs to a second floor room in icy conditions. You don't have to worry about getting an icy blast when you open your room door if you have a room on an interior heated corridor. |
I'd reco Valley River Inn Eugene, but I don't know your budget.

Welcome to Fodors. Yes, we'd need your budget to make useful recommendations.
Unless the requirement for outside entrance is because you plan on sneaking in pets or contraband ;) I agree with tomfuller. In Feb exterior stairs and walkways could be really icy. (plus if it is pet related, it is easy to find pet-friendly properties in Oregon) |
