This is a fantastic BBQ place. I'm not the only one who thinks they're good too. Look at their Tripadvisor reviews. http://www.tripadvisor.com/Restauran...h_Georgia.html They are the top restaurant (out of 408 restaurants) in Savannah!

You might want to post in the Georgia forum.

Agreed with suewoo here. Will also suggest doing a board search, as there's plenty of good info already posted here.

I'll give you two words to get you started though -- Mrs. Wilkes.

If you have some extra bucks, I'd recommend Ballastone Inn. It's oldest (?) in Savannah and beautifully decorated. You can get a continental breakfast in your room or eat Chef's choice in one of the upstairs rooms.

Afternoon tea, and after dinner drinks also served. It is so easy to close your eyes and imagine yourself in colonial times.

My DH and I stayed at a Hyatt right on the water in 1994 and liked it very much.

Both places are near HOHO trolley.

Yes, search for hotels on this site for more. And please write about your trip!

The Ballastone is a favorite of ours, but don't know that it is a good choice for a family of four. I have a file I made up when planning our trip to Savannah several years ago. If you'd like a copy, e-mail me at giovannatravels!yahoo.com

My favorite for a family of 4 would be my new favorite - the Staybridge Suites on Bay Street in the historic district. Very nice rooms with kitchens - great for keeping snacks and drinks cold. Free breakfast and free afternoon snacks a few times a week. Great lobby with sitting area that would be great for meeting up with the others in your party.

Fancy restaurant favorite is the Pink House, just around the corner. If you aren't going to go to an expensive restaurant, tell us what kind of food you want and we'll make some recommendations.

There's a good pizza place at City Market - http://www.vinnievangogo.com/

A good casual choice with food everyone would like is -

And they also deliver if you are just worn slap out from the sight-seeing ;)

A great classic choice for kids (and adults) in SAvannah is Clary's -

If you like Asian, a good choice is Saigon

If you are there on a weekday and you've never eaten family style Southern food, Mrs Wilkes is one of the last places still serving that way. You'll sit at a big table with other guests and pass the plates and bowls around. Southern food that can't be beat -

That's a start. The restaurants on River Street vary in quality.

OOPS on the SC posting.

Not enough coffee before typing.

Thinking we might meet in Atlanta but switched to Savannah.

Thanks for all the great posts!

We spent a long weekend in Savannah last Fall and stayed at the Folly House. We had a a wonderful experience at this B&B. The staff was super friendly, the room was big and the beds - extra comfy! Breakfasts were delicious and they are happy to share their recipes with the guests so don't be shy about asking. I would recommend it highly. I agree the Ballastone is probably up there with the best in Savannah but it is also pretty pricey. The Folly House is a bit cheaper (although still on the high end)and every bit as satisfying. Enjoy your stay. Jen
