lodging between Cedar Breaks NP and Moab

You're always so helpful and i hope you can help me again

Can anyone suggest a place to stay for one night between Cedar Breaks NP and Moab?

We've explored Rt 12 and its NPs many times (as many of you know) and altho we won't be doing as much exploring this year, we're excited to drive it again.

In previous years we've stayed in Torrey, which was fine, but would like somewhere different this summer. Any ideas?

Once you leave Torrey, that is not much between you and Moab!

Hanksville is one possible place. There are about 3 motels there. The Whispering Sands gets two stars in the AAA guide book.

I would stay at one of the good motels in Torrey, of which there are several.

Betweem Hanksville and I 70 you have 44 miles of desert.

Guess i wasn't clear, i'm looking for something between Cedar Breaks and Torrey, since moab will be where we stay the next two nights.
There doesn't seem to be much available along route 12 other than Torrey - any ideas? Anyone?

Any ideas anyone?
Or is Torrey still the best choice?

Much of Hanksville washed away in a flash flood about a year and a half ago. I haven't been that way since, so don't know what's left, but there wasn't much there to start with, which I'm sure you remember from past trips.

I was looking at the map to see what options there might be for you. My only suggestion would be Brian Head ski area. Very pretty in the summer, but very close to Cedar Breaks, so wouldn't get you very far along to Moab.

Other than that, most of the area is very small, ranching rural UT. Pretty, but not a lot of choices, unless you maybe search out a cute B&B in a small town. Although the smaller the town, the less sophisticated the B&B is likely to be!

My Uncle has a beautiful log home on a ranch up in the aspens above Loa (west of Torrey) and he cooks a great breakfast - but hasn't opened it to the public - yet. Guess I'll have to talk to him about that one!

What about Boulder Moutain Lodge in Boulder, before you get to Torrey? Granted it might be a bit longer drive to Moab, but its well worth the stop. Beautiful location, accomadations & great restaurant on the premise. http://www.boulder-utah.com/ We left Moab a few years back and made that our first stop and easily could have stayed there another night.

Good suggestion Disneynan! I love the Boulder Mtn Lodge and would never get tired of driving hwy 12. Ellen, if you haven't spent much time right in that area - it's a really great place.

Hikes - Calf Creek Falls, Escalante River and much, much more. Burr Trail too.

Boulder Mtn Lodge is a great suggestion - I just booked a room for our fall trip. Hell's Backbone Grill provides fresh, delicious and interesting on-site dining. Can't wait!
There are some interesting places to stay near Escalante - Slot Canyons Inn gets great reviews on Trip Advisor. And the Kiva Koffe House has two rooms available - that seems like it might be a neat place to stay.

Boulder Mt Lodge looks fabulous but is booked when we'll be there :( I'll keep trying to get in on a cancellation - i'm doing that in a lot of places.

Dayle, tell your uncle to get moving lol :) Sounds like a great place and he'd probably do quite well going into business! We're really looking forward to our return trip to the area!

Perhaps somewhere in Panguitch? The new Fodor's Complete Guide to the National Parks of the West book that just came out lists Marianna Inn and Panguitch Inn. If you want camping, it lists Red Canyon RV Park. Panguitch is near Bryce Canyon National Park and not too far from Cedar Breaks National Monument.

Dayle (or anyone) ~ wondered if you've heard anything interesting about rafting out of moab this summer, in terms of water levels, conditions ect? I think i read something about it being low this year...?
