Lodging at Aston Waikiki Grand
My wife and I will be in Waikiki in October. We have the opportunity to stay at the Aston Waikiki Grand Hotel. Can anyone gives us their opinion of the hotel? What about other nice budget type hotels in Waikiki?

For a budget hotel it's fine. Stayed there about 8 yrs ago, it's since been remodeled. Located on the east (Diamond Head) end of Waikiki, across the street from a lovely park with trees, and adjacent to that is the Zoo, flower gardens, and the free Pleasant Hawaiian Hula Show. Right on the Bus line and steps to the beach.

Just in case you're non tolerant of non-hetero lifestyles, you should be aware that there's a popular bar catering to the alternative lifestyle on the premises.

1. A few months ago or so someone described this hotel as "an absolute HOLE" or something to that effect in a trip report posted here.<BR><BR>2. Thanks for the warning 'anon' but your wording is somewhat akin to the proverbial "When did you stop beating your wife?" question.<BR><BR>The propaganda of radical activist's over the last 40 years or so notwithstanding, 'tolerance' and 'acceptance' are not the same thing. <BR><BR>Not being comfortable with a gay bar scene does not mean one is a venomous 'homophobe' (which is a term co-opted by the radical activists. 'homophobe' literally means having an irrational fear of homosexuality or homosexuals. The radical activists sucessfully turned it into a epithet with which to tar anyone who doesn't support their agenda.)

"...stayed at the Aston Waikiki Grand Hotel - this place is a "HOLE" - booked it on the internet - picture you see of the room they advertise is not what you get. This hotel is really run down and dirty - we only stayed one night and checked out."<BR><BR>- Nina ([email protected])<BR>01/22/2001, 01:52 pm<BR>Post entitled '3 Islands - Just Back'

Cynthia: Sorry if you took offense with my statement, I have no agenda and meant nothing by it. I just felt that it might cause of discomfort to certain people, and being aware of the situation might preclude any unpleasant surprises. <BR><BR>
