Lodging
We're in the very early planning stages of a July 2003 trip to Maine. Any suggestions on locations / lodging? We have 2 toddlers and are in our late 30's.

Monica, there is no "Maine" board, they all go to the US board, so your title shoud specify which state, at least.

To answer your question, we need to know what types of things you would like to do/see, and an approx. idea of how much you would like to spend per night.

This site works best for questions AFTER you've gotten basic info from the DESTINATIONS section, or a guidebook. Happy planning!

And more to the point, even if there was a Maine board, Maine is a big state. Why wouldn't you specify where in Maine you were looking? Is it really too much effort for you to type a few extra words in the post title, or did you just figure that everyone on this forum was a mind reader?

Hi Monica-
I really enjoy Maine. I like Freeport for outlet shops. Camden, Rockland area for views and lighthouse looking, hiking. Some towns on the coast with shopping.
|
Bar Harbor Area and go to Acadia National Park. Just beautiful up there.

Thank you "Deborah" and "not as rude" for the suggestions. It seems that some people on these boards get a lot of pleasure out of chastising other people. I wish I had that much time on my hands! We have narrowed our location down to the Wells / Kennebunkport / York area. Any thoughts?
|
You are welcome. I was just in that area over Columbus weekend. York is a small town, but it is pretty and so is Ogunquit. http://www.ogunquit.org Drive along the coastal road. If you decide about staying in that area, you could also drive to Kittery and hit the outlets which are fun and drive over the bridge to Portsmouth which is a really cute town. I still thought the Bar Harbor area was prettier and more to do (if you like nature) so that would still be my first choice. Have fun.

Yes, Monica, and some people spend a few minutes typing out the best advice the person has gotten, and then it's not appreciated. :~(

Monica
Walking the MARGINAL WAY in Ogunquit is wonderful. http://www.ogunquit.org is a great site.

Monica, while I agree there is no reason to be rude on this board, you'd still get many more on target replies if you posted your message with a more specific heading (like "Maine July 2003 for family with toddlers")and give us an idea of your interests and budget.
|
Monica,

Any person who posts such a brainless header deserves all of the "rude" replies they get.

W
|
Monica,

If the people using this board would use better headers, it would take you less time to use it.
You got off lightly.

Monica,
We have been to Kennebunkport a couple of times. Very quaint and lovely. We stayed at the Maine Stay Inn and it was very nice. There are several nice B&B's. Have fun!
Fiona
