Lodge at Red River Ranch ,etc.

We will be headed East in Utah staying 5 nights in St. George, 1 in Bryce Canyon, 1 (or 2?) at RRR. It looks so nice , I'm thinking 2 nights! Then on to Moab area-1 or 2 nights here? Would like a B& B outside of town.
Appreciate anyone who has stayed at:
Desert Hills b & B
Castle Valley INN
Adobe Abode

Thanks!

can anyone tell me how long it takes to get from Capital reef to Moab? Is it mainly mountain, curvy roads?
Thanks!

Hi B,

Just curious, why 5 nights in St. George? Asking because Moab deserves a bare minimum of 3 days, 4 or 5 is much better.

It takes about 2.5 hours from Capitol Reef to Moab. No, it's not mountainous driving and not curvy either.

The Red River Ranch is VERY nice, especially if you fly fish.

Thanks, Dayle!
We have a condo rented in St. George - that's why 5 nights--plan to take day trips from there. Other than Zion what is within daytrip driving distance from St. George?
Is any of the driving in southern Utah, higher altitude, curvy ,etc? I guess I assumed it was...

Yes, plenty of the driving in southern Utah is windy roads, just not between Capitol Reef and Moab.

Zion is about a 45 - 60 minute drive from St. George. Personally, I would never stay in St. George in order to visit Zion. St. George is a BIG, sprawling city with lots of traffic.

Near St. George is also Snow Canyon, nice for a short visit, maybe 1/2 day.

St. George has lots of golf courses if you're into that and a couple of historical homes to visit.

I would really re-think the 5 days in St. George. Your time would be better used this way:

2 days Zion - staying in Springdale
2 days Bryce
2 days Capitol Reef
4 days Moab

Thanks again , Dayle. We have a timeshare exchange to St. George - so changing that is not an option. Is the north rim of GC or other places in N . AZ options as day trips from ST. George?
When we stay at Red River Ranch is driving to Hell's Backbone for dinner feasible?
Think we have decided against squeezing in Moab and will save for another trip.
Thanks!

Dayle Apr 9th, 2007 05:01 PM

No, in my opinion a day trip to the north rim from St. George is not realistic. A drive for dinner from Torrey to Hell's Backbone Grill is not realistic either. You need to take a look at a detailed map, and understand that the driving is slow going mostly on windy 2 lane roads.

Anybody else gone from St.George to GC?
Can someone recommend good ,detailed maps?
My husband wants to do some mt. biking-any recommendations for trails in Zion, Bryce, Capitol Reef areas?
Thanks!
