Lockers in JFK

Does anyone know if there are lockers in the JFK airport. My husband and I have an 11 hour layover and would like to explore the city, but don't really want to haul our carry-ons around. Thanks.

P.S. Any suggestions on what's a "must see" in NY? We've heard Central Park is a nice way to relax and enjoy the day.

NO there are no lockers after 9/11 in any airport. You might see if you can check them in with your airline or stop at one of the hotels close to the airport and check them with baggage service for a few hours.

From JFK you can get the Airtran to the subway or a bit faster would be to take the Long Island Railroad into Penn Station also at Jamacia Station, easier than it sounds.

I'd suggest getting a book on the city so you can make a list of the things you want to see.

Have a great time.

TravelBuff, I guess we all assume there is no storage after 9/11. Imagine my shock (and I flew in and out of San Francisco) - there ARE storages in the airport.

So I went to the JFK website, clicked on Customer Service, Luggage Storage

Terminal 4 Arrivals Arrivals 1st Floor 24 Hours $4.00 - $16.00 per day depending on size (718) 751-4020

Terminal 1 Arrivals Arrivals 1st Floor Near Alitalia and Olympic Airlines 7:00 AM to 11:00 PM $4.00 - $16.00 per day depending on size (718) 751-2947

Prices, phone numbers... I hope they x-ray before storing!!

Try the Pizza! You might find yourself bringing a pie home with you. You are allowed to do that and I have seen many folks bring whole Pizza pies through airport security in NY. Ask the owner of the Pizza joint wrap it up for you. They will do that.

By the way, any corner hole in the wall will do. DO NOT go to Pizza Hut or any other chain!!!

Can't you get your suitcases checked thru? That's much easier.

For an eleven hour stop-over, I recommend the following:

1) Times Square. Just wander about, knowing this is the pop culture center of America. Be aware that, as you stare up at the bright lights, ten pickpockets are staring at you, seeing if you are paying as much attention to your valuables as they are. Thieves congregate here because they know that distracted and awe-struck tourists make easy pickings.

2) Ground Zero. Nothing much to see, but being where 9-11 actually happened will always have an impact.

3) Battery Park to see the Statue of Liberty. I normally recommend a ride on the Staten Island Ferry, but that would use up about three hours.
