Locations in New York

Hello.

What area is the Empire State Building in? What about Grand Central Station? I need to know what area to choose on Priceline (Midtown East, Midtown West, etc.).

Thanks.

Grand Central Station is between 42 and 44th Sts - and Vanderbilt and Lexington Avenue - so Midtown East (that is 2 blocks east of 5th Ave).

The Empire State Building is on 34th St St from Fifth to Sixth Ave (of the Americas) so Midtown West.

Fifth Ave is the dividing line between east and west.

But - I wouldn't limit yourself to those areas unless for some reason those are the only places you will be. Other tourist attractions (museums, Statue of Liberty etc ) are spread out all over the city. The one area I would reco you do NOT select is Times Square - which is very loud, tacky and garish - full of discount souvenir shops and bands of roaming teens. Really good only for going to the theater.

You could also easily look at Central Park South or the upper east or west side - depending on your interests.

If you're bidding on Priceline, any area with the word "midtown" in it is central. They also have a separate area called Times Square which is obviously also central. Keep in mind some areas are pricier than others. YOu should ask for bidding help on biddingfortravel.com or betterbidding.com

Do you know what a free re-bid is? If you don't, you are not ready to bid.

Thanks for the info. Despite my ignorance of the locations of things, I have gone to NYC half a dozen times as a tourist, but this time have a specific job to do which is why I am 1) limited to location and 2) am not splurging for a hotel.

On a Priceline bid, ESB would be in midtown SOUTH. Grand Central is midtown east and the most often won 4* in that area is the Grand Hyatt, directly next to Grand Central. On the Priceline website, they have maps that show the areas and point out those kind of well known places.
