Local Food in New Orleans

Where can I find the piping hot crawfish "thrown on the newspaper" type of restaurant - not tourist kind of stuff.. Thanks....

Dear Terry: You might try someplace like The Praline Connection in the Faubourg Marigny (that's next to the French Quarter) but don't expect to get any Louisiana crawfish until next Spring. Crawfish is served--but it's from mainland China. Bon appetit! Joan

Went to my file to pull out my information on New Orleans. Wanted to recommend The Praline Connection, but someone beat me to the punch. Great food and great prices. In the Warehouse District.

If you are looking for true New Orleans, inexpensive and known by all locals fo to Franky & Johnny's Uptown on Arabella Street. Crawfish will not be available until late Feb or March and not really big and jucy until April. Boiled Shrimp & often Boiled Crabs are available. Try the Crawfish pies!!

Terry, try the Acme Oyster Bar in the French Quarter. Have had crayfish there (but not sure served on newspapers). Not a fancy place and sometimes crowded but good food. Gumbo also good. Bob K.
