Local beaches near Port Richey, Tampa Florida?
 

We're taking a road trip to Tampa to see our Grandson. While there we want to take him to a beach nearby. I walk with a cane, so I need a beach that has parking near the sand area, and one with a bathroom. LOL

Does anyone know any beaches near or around Hudson or Port Richey Florida?

I suggest Honeymoom Island, which is a county park with lots of parking near the sand, some pretty smooth trails, at least one little playground, bathrooms, etc. It's my favorite of all the local beaches. Oh yes, you can also take a ferry to Caladesi Island, which is great for shelling, and your grandson might enjoy the ride.

You could also go to Clearwater Beach, where, if you go on a weekday, you may be able to get parking near the sand. It's flat and smooth there, too, but a lot busier; on the other hand, there are restaurants and shops along the beach, too.

Those are nearest New Port Richey. If you go farther south, there is a long string of beach towns...

I would suggest Pine Island. You would travel North to Rt. 50 then turn left. Rt. 50 is just past Spring Hill on 19. A lot less traffic going and coming. Pine Island is small enough to navigate. They have a snack bar, a bathroom, a small play ground, and is nice and clean. I think that it's about $3.00 to park all day.

Call Pinellas County parks and rec before you go. Depending on who all will be going (parents of the grandson?) who can assist you, a really fun option for you might be to use one of the "beach" wheelchairs that is available at all of the Pinellas County parks. You will need someone who can push the chair for you. The great thing about the beach wheelchairs, for someone who uses a cane or for someone who uses a wheelchair, is that they can go easily over the sand and right into the water. Sand Key is a beautiful park just south of Clearwater Beach. Have a ball!
